Hot Stuff Coming Thru. - Land Rovers Only

Anywho, so I finished a head gasket change on my truck today and its running great. I have noticed before that it runs fairly hot, not too hot, but Im use to colder running engines. The temp gauge always sits in the middle once it is warmed up, and it is gradual getting there so I don't think it is a problem. The thing is after a 10 minute drive I pulled back into my driveway and opened the hood and was hit by a wave of heat. This is the first time I have had the truck in warm weather (was like 20C today) so Im not sure what is normal. Also, after about 2 hours I went back out to top up my coolent and it was still warm, as in I got a stshhh when I opened the coolent tank.

Is this normal? The cooling fan(electric one in front of the heat exchangers) on the front is just for A/C eh, doesn't kick in when the coolent is realy hot?

I've been told that new engines run pretty hot, but this is a pretty old engine isn't?

Thanks in advance....If you need actual temps maybe I can go buy a cool laser thermometer, whoo reasons to buy tools!

Way to go for doing the job yourself. Don't know if the heat is normal, but everything I have read on here indicates that they do run hot.

They run very hot. What you're describing seems to be normal.

I'd agee - the trucks seem to give off a lot of heat. idling in traffic in a mid-west summer - I can feel it wafting up from the engine. Don't thinks it's a big deal.

The electric fans are also supposed to work when the engine starts gettin hot.

The electric fans are for things like stop and go traffic, and slow trail driving when the vehicle isn't up to speed and RPM for the clutch fan to operate.

These trucks do run hot. I had to do some work on mine the other day when it was warm out (around 15C in the shade) and it took about 3 hours for it to cool enough to touch. Dont use a water hose because its aluminium.
