By the book, It says don't go above the hubs. You have to think about where your ECU's are, yup plural, but only one will cause the engine not to work. Don't forget your amps and CD Changer under the seat, the subs in the rear door and the speakers in the side door. I think they are all paper.
I think the general consensus is that as long as you find somewhere higher to relocate the ECU you should be fine. I haven't tried any water yet.

Devil...so sorry man, I never got back to you on sealing up the ECUs. =(

Jupiter...exactly like Devil has mentioned..lots to worry about. Its about how much you are willing to risk to play in the water and how deep you're willing to go. It's always recommended that you avoid water crossings. If you really need to (or if you've ever scene Camel Trophy scenes or any other scene where Discos, Rangies, or Defenders are up to their windows in water and thought that was coolest thing ever... ) you should be ready...here's a litle list of things to keep in mind.....

Transfer case breather
Transmission breather
Axle breathers
CD Changer
ECUs
Electric connections under the hood
Hydrolock (water in the engine)
Foam padding under the carpets (it'll retain water for days, creating annoying humid stink and makin it really hot inside if your car is parked inthe sun.)

and during a water crossing you always have to worry about what you can't see. You can bend robs, break stuff, or one of the worst things...finding a deeper spot and putting your roof underwater!

We'll talk more about this later over some wings at hooters!...check your PM...

Here is my 99, with 32"s and a 3" lift. After a couple of crossings like this I checked the air filter before heading home, it was dry at that point.
With or with out a snorkle, I wouldn't have wanted to go much deeper.
Snorkles are only beneficial to a gas truck in that they get your air intake out of the dust, when it comes to water, you are more prone to getting stuck.
So, I stopped once and the water was to the top of my tires, 265/75/16's, I wouldn't go any deeper.

Here is me going in water over the hood! It was a thrill for sure, however i would not do this often! but every once in a while is fine! Just drain and refil your diffs and you should be ok!

Hey I have a disco with a 4 inch lift and a snorkel

I have been in some really deep water covering the hood but you have to remember like they said eariler the ecu's and another inportant thing is the front and rear diffs have breather tubes on top of them to let the oil expand when it gets hot. you need to extend the tubes up into the snorkel if you want to go deeper and not get water into them. The transmission and the Transfercase also have breathers on them too. Good luck and let me know what more i can do to help. I go in water alot but i have had to do some other mods to get it there.

LEt me know if i can help

Zack

So going in water this deep wont hurt anything. pretty much water as tall as your tires. because i go about a foot , foot and a half, deep once in a while. anwayys, with water that shallow you dont have to flush out differentials. or anything of the sort.?

Oh no man...at a foot/foot and a half...as long as you keep moving..the water doesn't have a chance to actually seep through seals...now if you stop...thats a differente story.

dear god that looks fun but awful scary. how are you certain which water you go in isn't going to contain a trap, or a log stuck up in the water or a deep hole like the guys are mentioning? Do you guys just take your chances?
