Talking How much is to MUCH!! water in your intake?

I found out something out today. Well I'll start by saying my MAF sensor was going out (lean, trans codes) Well the week after the codes popped, we got a real big rain storm. They are rare hear in SoCal, so I went out to enjoy the wet earth. The area I went to was filled with water (which was great) road where now creeks and creeks where now rivers.

I'll put it like this, I thought the water couldn't not be more than 2 or 3 feet... as it was coming over my hood. I said sh%t better roll up the windows. By luck, the water only came up to the door handles and the hole wasn't to long only 15 or 20 feet. She stayed alive and I kept playing so more water (bottom headlight deep only) and some mud.

Like I said before the SES light was already on so I didn't think anything of it. I ran the codes for the hell of it and I got a couple new ones ( I am a knuckle head) I erased them before I wrote the new ones down. Anyway, since then no extra codes have showed up.

Today I got my new MAF sensor in and went to install it. As I remove the top of my airbox I noticed dried dirt water in the airbox, filter, MAF, plastic intake tube and the water catch(I don't know if that is it's name but, it looks like one). I wiped all the dirt out and blew out my air filter, put my new MAF in and started good, idled smooth and no codes popped.

Is there anything I should be aware of as a possible problem? All fluids have been checked or changed, 200 miles later and nothing seems wrong.

I will be the first to admit, it was very dumb of me to drive through that hole. Now with that said, I am hella impressed by how deep and far she went and came out the other side ok. By the way , on my way back in. As I passed that same hole I found two Jeeps who were prepping to get towed , like wet cats.( Jeeps 0 , Disco 1 )

Side note- I have no snorkel and no sense

Cheers
Cody

Throw that old air filter away, all you are doing is sucking in new dust.
Your are very lucky you didn't hydro-lock your engine.
I get the impression you don't pay much attention to your truck based of your check engine light/codes.
Maybe you will need to roll the truck to get the point that you can't just keep driving it without paying attention to what is going on.
Your air inlett is about 2"s taller then your l/f tire, suck in water and you may be looking for an engine.

If you are up to your door handles in water w/o a snorkel you're effectively pouring water into your engine.. so don't be surprised when you hydrolock.

Outside checking your oils and replacing your air filter, there is not much you can do. What is done is done. Just keep on driving it and having fun

Easy Mike, your words sting. I pay attention to my lights, that’s how I knew I had a Bad MAS, okay it took me week and a half to get a new one. That’s not neglect, that’s shopping around for a part. It doesn't rain here much, so I had no choice but to go out. Also I don't need to put her tits up "to get the point". I saw the hole dry and now it had water in it, little deeper than I thought. Believe you me; my butthole did pucker when I saw the water over my hood. But, what do you do when you are already neck deep... keep going and make it out the other side. Yes the new air filter has already been installed. I'm very aware of where my air intake is and with only 2 or 3 feet of water, I would have been fine. I was just bragging on the Disco that she went diving and luckily she remembered to hold her breath, that’s all Mike. I just drove through the deep part once and the other times I went through the shallower spots. 2 feet

I just wrote to say, that was the first time I went deep in a disco and I was very impressed on how she did. Only a little leaking at the bottom of the doors weather stripping where it splits for the corners. (I fixed that with some weather stripping i bought and slid into the factory). Yes, rmuller, I know water in the engine = hydrolock.

The picture was when I was giving her the once over to make sure nothing was out of the ordinary, no broken fan blades or anything. Knock on wood everything looked good (not meaning to rhyme)

I thought it was a good tale of victory for the Land Rover Discovery II for its battle with the murky brown water of the deep hole. Who, later that day claimed the lives of two helpless Jeeps. God rest their little 4 banger souls.

I wrote it not as a tale of sorrow but a tale of triumph....

Thanks p76rangie and lanj66 for getting the story...

Mike, thank you for all your advice in the past and hopefully in the future. I know you meant to help not hurt...

Cheers everyone

Cody

Sidenote- all fluids checked or changed- diffs are good
