I beg to differ….
If I hear one more person scream about how many times your disco is going to “break down” and its going to be super pricy to get it fixed I’m going to loose it. The fact of the matter is this. You’ve got three different kinds of drivers and two different motives for owning a LR Disco. 1: Hard core Off Road this, thing will tackle anything that I throw at it. 2: Daily Driver, nice looking truck – sucks gas but I can deal with it. I go camping once a year… 3: A little bit of 1 and 2 It would seem to me that driver (1) would put much more wear and tear on their truck and would require more maintenance in the long run. This is fact. Will your transfer box fail at 50k? It could happen. 1 transfer box out of 100 are bad from the get go? Out of 50? Even still the chances that it’s your transfer box are slim to none. LR might not have good quality control but they HAVE quality control. In my opinion if you use your Discovery in a moderate fashion you should have many good years of service. Yes, that means going 25-50k without 1 single problem folks. Not one light, not one starter, not one rear diff. and not one transfer box. Yea I said it. Now the Rover Gods are going to come get me! Why did I post this? Manly for the dwindling few that are thinking about buying a LR with $4 a gallon gas. Have faith, LR’s are great trucks….

Just a reply BUT: That article made me feel ever so much better about the purchase of our 'new' 03 Disco HSE7. I personally wrung my hands over this thing because of the legendary and almost supernatural failure rate of parts and components, but my wife LOVED it. That said; Land Cruisers ain't cheap to fix either, and I have spent salaries on them in the past. I'm sure in no mood to void the remainder of the "Certified" warranty, but this looks like a damn nice rig to wheel in the future. I love the way it drives, I hate the turning radius, (it requires the same space to turn as a 1977 Buick Deuce-and-a-quarter) I like the 'grunt' but I hate the friggin' door locks that lock at 5mph and only open one door on the un-lock, (but my dealer is fixing this!
) I hate that serious tires are hard to come by for 18s, but I love the highway manners. Having sold my fullsized Blazer in favor of this...who cares about gas? I had terrible MPG before I bought this gem. Anyway, thanks for the encouragement and I do intend to "Rover-On." ![]() Todd |

Pinarello,
The door locking thinkg is good security and as for the opening, you can programme the vehicle to do whatever you want (sorry can't remember how at the moment). Mine opens the drivers door first and then second press all the rest and on my wife's DII all her doors open at one press.

Same here, Im a number 2 on his list. Im at 135k with no major work (as i knock on wood). Regular oil changes and normal upkeeping has done the trick for me.
I just believe that there is a lot more people that log on with problems than people that log on with no problems... if youre having no problems with your car why would u google "land rover forums" anyway??? ![]()
