How are you guys?
I just got back from a trip to ATL GA. on the way there I did 18.2Mpg, 16.7MPG( my friend drove ) , 17.8Mpg, and 19.5 MPG .

Basicly I pomped up the tires to 45psi in the back and 35psi in the front . Hard ride and bouncy as hell in NYC . Also I had to travel at 80mph to 90 mph to keep up with the RufRiders Car club devition ( i'm kind of a member ) . So average speed was actually like 75mph going to ATL .
Oh I had 3 people in the truck and bagages for the weekend .

On the way back I only got 16.8, 16.9, and 17.5MPG ( I did less stops and I drove with out the club ) . Oh going to ATL toke us 36 Houers with the club ( 20 other cars ) , but going home to CT it toke me only 17 houers and we were stuck in NYC strafic and i think we were also in Virginia traffic .

BTW Harbes or what ever Burgers are asome .

P.S. My driving style was . Don't go pass 2.5krpms when accelerating , But once in overdrive and the tranny would not shift , just get up to that 70, 80mph.

I have been commuting between Jersey City and No. Reading Massachusetts every week for a few weeks and now the fuel consumption has become a big issue as the prices are going through the roof. The points every one keeps making regarding tire pressure, oil changes, clean filters, and driving habits are the key to better fuel consumption and vehicle longevity. I am getting around 450 miles to the tank of gas on the highway by being really careful about driving habits and maint. This comes out to about 18 mpg and I am very happy with that number. When my fiancee drives she gets about 12 mpg because she floors it and slams on the brakes every three seconds. By the way my truck is a 2000 with 84000 miles.

On my RRC i did a few things:
1. K&N filter
2. The "tornado" (which helped a lot on highway, a little in city)
3. Tune up, with Bosch Supers spark plugs Part# 7506, (it's not what the computer say to use though)
4.Keep up on basic maint..
5. Every 3000 i put Lucas fuel system cleaner in my tank
6. Don't know if it helps gas too much but, i run synthetic fluids in everything(trans, axles, oil, pwr steer)

I get an average of 13 m.p.g city/19 m.p.g. highway
Another Trick is a snorkel, they work a little like a cold air intake, but that is an extreme measure

I currenty have around 165,000 miles on my '92

So the Tornado thing works? um...did you really notice any performance gain? and as far as gas meliage, what did you notice?

The tornado helped very little in city.. But on the highway it makes a dramatic difference in MPG's.. I also noticed a big help when wheeling... when you put your foot in it it may get you up that rock you couldn't do so well before..

The best gain for me was when i pull my camper..... I really notice a power difference.. It was a very nice benefit

As fas as MPG i get from 3 - 5 mpg more, when you do a lot of mtn passes that really helps

City maybe 1 mpg more..

Honestly i notice it most when:
1. Highway
2.When pulling a trailer

hmmm.....

I was actually looking at the tornado fuel saver about half a year ago, but I ran across too many tech forums saying it was bs. Some claimed to own them and said it made no noticable difference, thier argument made sense, mostly that the idea is to decrease turbulance in the air intake, vs. increase it; I will have to find a link and post it.

I cant believe you get that significant of an increase in gas milage, thats incredible! +3-5mpg on hwy. w/ trailer.

Someone mentioned using the Sport Mode, so I tried it. I do actually get 25 more miles per tank. Odd. My 2002 (roof rack, tires, ect) SD with 47K miles is getting (in sport mode) about 345 per tank (89 Octane) before Sport mode it was about 319-322 per tank.

So sport mode? ummmm..i thought that makes the shift point more aggressive and allows the RPM to go higher, i figure it would make the MPG less.

About the tornado thing, out car has the MAS and the thing pretty much looks like a tennis raquet, in the air tube, when you install the tornado you do so after the MAS correct?

Yes, it is placed after the sensor in the intake hose.... I started looking at my Girlfriend truck to see has hers was doing... She is getting 2 mpg more city and 6 more highway... But she drives a Ford exploder (explorer)

Hmm....ill have to try the sport mode thing. Like Azcamel im thinking it would decrease gas mileage, but I guess its worth a try if you said it is better. I wouldnt know personally, because the only times I have used sport mode is to go fast; ie. Black Rock fast

Have to read these reviews, they seem to be pretty anti-tornado with a strong technical approach.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...74441?v=glance

The highlights from a review on amazon explains, "When the tornado is placed before a Mass AirFlow Sensor, otherwise known as a MAF, all that swirling air will be turbulent once again after passing through the sensor. Most MAFs have screens protecting the fragile wires (Hot Wire MAF) inside. If you have a Vane style MAF, then your airflow is even worse. No help from the Tornado before the MAF.

Stock intakes these days have a whole lot of ridges and baffles built into them, some are for strength so the intake piping doesn't collapse under vacuum, some are there to help quiet the roaring sound of the intake. If you place the Tornado after the MAF, but still within a stock intake, you are unlikely to see any improvement as the ridges and pockets will cause turbulence.

Fuel injectors on a modern day vehicle are designed to atomize the fuel as efficiently as possible. The atomization of fuel is in the design of the intake manifold, the fuel injectors, valves, and head.

The vehicles that it may have a positive effect on would be the older carbureted cars with an air filter that sits directly atop the carb.

The mileage gains that people see are likely to be from driving habits. This claim is backed up with anecdotal evidence, someone explains that their first tank of gas with the Tornado went a long way, but after a while it dropped back down. How can this happen? Its the right foot.

When gas prices jump, everyone is easy on the gas. Mileage is on your mind every time you pull away from a stoplight, the same happens when you install the Tornado. The first few days you are easy on the gas, improving your mileage, after a week or so you get back to your normal driving habits and your old gas mileage."
