I thought the same thing, but i was hoping it was worth a try. Maybe i'll save the 30bucks for some gas, 10 gallon of gas, dam that sucks.

my '00 gets about 13 city and 17-18 highway. My impression was that Sport mode burned more gas, at least it always seemed like it. ( I usually use it when I have the loaners from the dealership - not sure why - I LIKE TO BEAT ON THEIR TOYS i GUESS)
From what I am reading though I need to try a fuel/system cleaner. I have heard a lot about it. Reading all these post gives me a list of things I need to check under my hood!

I talked to a rech at a Napa store about the tornado. He said the store sold about 50 of them and with in 8 weeks 49 were brought back. He said they did not work.

so i am the only person to have good luck with the tornado.... Weird...... I had heard a lot bad about them also, but when i bought it i was a manager at an auto parts store and it was cheap...... I didn't realize that many people had problems with the tornado.. Well i''m gonna try a snorkel next.. see what it does, not that it matters, it's for another function.

im not familiar with the RRC's, but does yours use a carburetor? If so, that might explain why.

No carb. here.. I put the tornado close to the manifold and put a clamp around it to get rid of the extra turbulence you talked about earlier.. I made sure it was a very tight fit for that reason....A lot of the warnings they gave or I read about i tried to fix before install....I am sorry to hear so many had troubles.. I have put then in 2 vehicles and both have increased mileage and that has been tracked for over a year with the tornado in. I am thinking of a "4x4 cold air intake" or as most call it a snorkel, what have you heard about gas mileage and snorkels?

dont get me wrong, im pretty not strongly against the tornado, though a bit iffy on it. All the experts seem to be saying exactly why it is impossible that it works in an EFi engine. If you are getting better gas mileage, then grats. It seems as though many are despite what the experts say.

to clarify if you didnt catch it, the stuff I wrote above is quoted from a tech review.

So I just bought the Tornado and am currently conducting my test/

Part 1.
Fill up the tank and reset the trip odometer, fill up tank 1 week later and divided the mileage by the amount of gas need to get a full tank. Drive only to work which includes city and highway driving, keep city RPM acceleration under 2300RPM and keep highway speed to 65mph.

Part 1 complete.
got 150.3 miles and took 10.08 gallons, which mean I got 14.910 miles per gallon on the type of driving I have been doing.

Part 2.
Install the Tornado per manufacture instructions, keep driving condition the same, keep under 2300RPM during acceleration and about 65 highway speed.

Will post results in 1 week.

those are wonderful suggestions. And yes driving technique is probably the biggest factor in getting good gas mileage. Trust me I have heard alot of complaints from alot of car lines about fuel mileage and its always driver technique. That includes the idling time you spend letting your car warm up.

and fuel treatment like 44k from BG and lR fuel conditioner are excellent. Why do i say this. Because apart of every warantee LOF we do we add the fuel conditioner on the Rover engines. Its needed to stave off the dreaded pinging from the exhaust valves hanging up.

oh and for anyone thinking about a BG fuel system flush. dont bother. They attack the buildups on the intake valves and the throttle body. They dont touch the exhaust valves. You need the fuel cleaners for those.

Tornado did crap! i did the calculation again and got 15.2mph under the same driving condition, .3 addtional mph can be road and condtions factors. In my case the Tornado did absolutely nothing!

Hey Aaron, how much and where did you get this Tornado Fuel Saver thing? If you had good things from it, I am sure there would be no difference as I own the same vehicle and almost same drive train as yours. Me and a friend were debating over this thing, and I have seen other cheap imitations but yours seems to hold up.

So where and how much for the Tornado thing?

AzCamel, You are not nuts. I think that tornado is crap but I am waiting until the end of the week to know for sure. The best I have gotten is 17 mpg. I have had mine in for the past 4 months at least so I've put close to 15k at least on it. Before I put it in I did 150 mile run from Albany to Montgomery. I got 19mpg (best so far real light on the throttle avg speed a little over 65mph) on that trip. I had the tornado from a previous vehicle I checked on line and the same unit fit the Rover. After some coaxing I put the tornado in direclty behind the MAF, just before the plastic hose turns into an accordian. Filled up the tank today, my wife did the run this time since I was at work. It came out to 17.4 and she is not easy on the skinny pedal, but not abusive either. I have got it this week so I think by friday I should have some confirmation results.
I think the Tornado actully hurt my mileage. I've got an '04 with the 4.6. Don't know why I thought it would work. Even if all the air was swiriling like it was supposed to it would still get disrupted by the plate in the throttle body and I think it may have cause more restriction in the air intake tube itself. The engine seem a little or relaxed now that I have taken it out but I will have to wait for the fill up this weekend to confirm this...I'm hoping I eat my words, maybe I put it in the wrong location and putting it close to the throttle body might work.
I also took the opportunity to check the air filter after. I know the dealer replaced it at the last service after 5k not a speck of dirt. Might be safe enough to experiment with the K&N and see what the results are, just trying to talk myself into it.

I get about 13 in city and 16-17 highway Depending on how fast I drive I never goe above 70 mph. I have a OME 2.5 lift and 265/75/16 tires. this is what I do.

1. I use either Chevron or arco gas (91)
2. keep my tires balanced
3. use lucas fuel injection cleaner aka (tune up in a bottle)
4. I have a K&N air filter it helps a little and my MAF hasn't blown UP yet.
5. I don't drive like Batman useless I have to.
6. Use fully synthetic mobil oil.
7. and sometimes if I go a long distance I'll use STP gas treatment.
I ALMOST FORGET I DRIVE MY DODGE NEON.
