It's not bad if you do it yourself or find a good mechanic..

So you are almost 16 then? Will you or your parents/guardians be fronting the maint/service bills? Insurance? Fuel?

The reason I ask, if you are like most 16 year old, there are FAR better things to be spending your own hard earned minimum wage dollars on than an expensive to own/operate/service/maintain vehicle.

My 02 Disco has higher insurance rates than my 06 QX56 and I have a squeeky clean record with multiple lines of insurance (aka, vehicles, boats, homes, snow mobiles, jet skis, etc).

Just my 2 cents, I'd personally buy an inexpensive, economical vehicle for your first one. Save the dream car/truck/suv for when you are financially viable.

My parents would be buying the car and paying for insurance, i can handle paying for gas and oil changes, and as for fluid changes and things of that nature my dad can teach me how to do that stuff

if you have someone to teach you or help you do the services it really is no different than most autos do you know what year you are getting and the mileage on the vehicle so we could go over some important maint. things for you

Your lucky to have such generous parents. While they are out buying you your truck, have them also buy you a Land Rover shop manual for the particular vehicle you have them purchase for you. Learn to do as much as you can and the wisdom you learn doing your own oil changes, diff/trans/x-case fluid changes, bleeding brakes, doing brake jobs, etc.etc. will be priceless! Plus save you or your folks TONS of cash. I say if you have that opportunity to own a Disco at your age go for it, just realise how fortunate you are.
