Default Intermitent HDC Failure light

Well, the HDC Failure light came on again today. It has appeared off and on over the last couple weeks. It will stay on untill I stop and park or leave it overnight. I park on an incline but, not a steep slope..

Ran the codes and got p1884 and p0102 - MAF related codes from starting it without air box sealed completely. Cleared codes and they have not returned since.

HDC failure still exist's.....no chimes x 3 ever - stays illuminated (amber) not blinking.

Ideas?

my sister's freelander had this light as well. granted hers came with an SRS light (turned out to be a crash sensor that i diagnosed from my days at a ford dealership haha).

my guess is that the HDC system runs off of some type of pitch detection sensor, and a brake sensor, and a vehicle speed sensor. I'd read the codes with the light on and see what comes up. All of those systems should report to the ECU, so you should see codes.

Was the light red or amber? Does it come on when being used or under normal driving? If you haven't changed your brake fluid, I would start with 3 pints of DOT 4 and see what happens.

Amber - constant when on upon start-up, goes away eventually. I'll start with brake fluid as I may also have to deglaze the fronts..slight squeel here and there....they have only a few hundred miles but it sat alot over last winter....

Thank you for the feedback.

since the hdc works with the abs my guess if there were any codes to be found they would be in the slabs and not the obd2 system.

Lone Amigo!

Mike suggested brake fluid change...I'll try that. I found somewhere that excessive brake heat can cause this as well (mine is at start up), so crappy fluid sounds about the same...

Hmm a stumper how fun.

Out of curiosity, do the brake and ABS lights (dash lights) work on your truck? Do they light up when you spin the key on? I've seen lots of people pull them. Just a thought.

HA! A few months ago when all three A's were in town maybe! If I had known how to do it..They are all working, gonna try the fluid change first it's time anyways.

According to the rave, the only thing that will only turn on the HDC light is a failed brake lamp relay. Everything still functions but there is a problem. (yes, HDC turns on the brake lamps when it is actively braking)
