Default Intro & a simple question

Hello all, I am just joining the LR fun. And I am kicking myself for not doing it before. Prior to this I owned a 2003 BMW X5, nice comfortable, quick, but not much to play with in the mud or Snow. However, it did it's Job, so I honestly cannot complain. I will say everytime I drove past a LR, My heart leaned toward the LR, and in the back of my head I honestly wished I had gotten the Disco before. (I really liked the X5, but there was a calling....) Before that I had an old 1997? Nissan Pathfinder, it was in Great Shape and played fairly hard, and was loads of fun, and I was lucky as I had no real issue's.

These days just an old mint 1994 325i BMW, that has been Garage kept since day one, a bunch of Skateboards a few Mtn Bikes and my "Semi-new" 2003 LR Discovery.

All I can say is that this is one fine piece of machinery, it will just take time to learn all the in's and out's. And after reading here for the last few days, there is one thing I have learned & that is there is so much more to these vehicles, then anyone could have imagined? It is not something in my eyes that goes from "A" to "D", this is the one that does what it wants between those two.

So thank you for having me, and if I have posted in the wrong place I do apologize, it was purely out of excitement after reading all of these stories.

Now I will say one thing, I have a fair knowledge of watches, and I know that they make SE's and what not, and for the most part I can tell about these sorts of things, however, since I am a newbie here, I kind of have to ask? I have a 2003 LR Disco, I have read thru all the lit, looked up as much as I thought I could and I am still confused.

Do I have a Disco I or a Disco II? and what is the difference? How do I tell, is one better then the other or just different?

Thanks all who take the time, and Thanks for the Board, as it is yet another place that I can find solace and discuss yet another passion.

Cheers,
Panerai_Pete

You should have a badge on the back that says "Series II" to the right of your license plate if yours is a left hand drive (American). Doesn't really matter, if you have a 03 it's a series II. They (LR) only made series I until 1999. Series I started production in the early 90's. No need to look here, just do a search on Wikipedia. The seats and interior changed a lot from series I to II. Another huge change was that LR gave the height 2 more inches. This is noticeable especially on the windows. They also produced a Series I manual trans. I don't think you can get an American Series II anything but automatic. The series II also has Bosh components, while the series I uses GEM components. The series II has a bit more horsepower as well. Your 03 has the most horsepower out of any gasoline D2 made, their final years......

It's a Discovery 2 but they did not badge them after 02, so the 03~04 just say Discovery. They difference is the motor 99~02 4.0/V8, 03~04 4.6/V8.

I appreciate the answer's! This really clears it up for me, and I am sure there is one or two others out there that were curious?

I am glad to see that everyone here is as cool as I thought they would be! Like I said the first time I felt like a Newb, and was glad that I got clear cut straight answers from you.

Now to learn how to use this tool the right way, once I have that..................The World is mine!

I've just got to ask because of your name...

Which Panerai do you have?
