Default iPod hookup for factory radio in '04 Disco?

Hey everyone... I haven't been on here in a while and had a quick question for you Disco II owners... I am looking for an iPod hookup for my wife's '04 Disco for her christmas present. Does anyone know of a quality product that will have good sound quality and is easily connected? I am looking for something that connects directly.. and please, please.. no fm modulators.. they are horrible!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Tape Deck adapter. Real cheap and the sound is pretty good.

For a more Sophisticated solution. Try Atlantic British, they have an adapter, it will let you control you Ipod for the most part like a huge CD Changer but you will loose the factory CD changer.

Harmon Kardon Makes hard wired type kit that comes with a secondary display and a funky controller that reminds me of the idrive in BMW's. Not sure where to mount that knob though.

Try Crutchfield. They have a pretty good selection of what will work in an '04 Disco for Ipod. I was looking at it yesterday. You don't have to by from them because chances are Best Buy or Circuit City will have the same products but it give you a chance to look at them all and get an idea of what options you have.

If you don't mind upgrading the Head Unit, Alpine offers Head Units that will allow you to control the Ipod through the Head unit. You'll have to but an interface to be able to retain the factory steering wheel controls but I think its hard wired (like factory) and not a universal infared relay type controller. I know that the SE's without the HK have an Alpine system with a phillips head unit but not sure if the Factory CD changer will work.

Personally I'm still using the tape Deck, The FM modulator is crap in these SUV's. Happy hunting. I'm still trying to figure out if I want to rip out the facotry Head Unit but the more I understand it the more I like it and want to keep it.

PS. Silver is a wicked color.

Sorry.. I forgot to mention it.. I have a '04 Disco. We have the factory head unit in there now and I'd like to keep it if all possible.. just looking to get the iPod working in it.. I'll have to ask the wife if she minds scrapping the CD changer in lieu of using the iPod instead. Any other suggestions?

Sorry Autophiles... I meant DevilDisco by the DD. I saw your Disco year in the subject line.

But I did have an idea for you. Visit PIE electronics. I sourced an electronic switch placed in-line with my CD changer that senses any signal from the RCA inputs and switches, then 10 sec after no signal the CD changer comes back, also sourced an iPod interface to charge and give me a signal to RCA cables to go into the aforementioned switch. All of this is Alpine specific, but PIE seems to have almost every situation covered, especially newer cars.

I also did a cool conversion to my 1995 RRC, but that's a different head unit from yours.

Also see here, PIE and then some.

I bought a three way switch at Al & Eds. It took a while to figure out how to hard wire it into the wire harnes for the CD changer, but I finally figured it out. I guessed and got extremely lucky! I have an '03 so the wiring may be different. Looking back I would pay to have it professionally installed. The three way switch allows me to switch between my cd changer, the iPod and my Sirius satelite unit. I didn't have to give up anything and I have a clean hardwired connection. The unit was 60 dollars and if I had paid for the install it would have been a couple hundred dollars. The only visable item is a clean and simple somewhat flat toggle switch I mounted in the center of the window controls just above the window lock. Hope this helps.

I've got an '04 SE7.

Don't want to change the head unit because I'll loose the use of those Aux conrols for the passengers. Don't know when I'll have to sit back there and need them, like the weekend before last.

I year or so ago, I installed a Blitzsafe and swapped my '04 changer for the Alpine changer. I broke even via ebay on the changer and made it worth it. The great thing about the blitzsafe is it retains all the facotry wiring, uses, etc. Charges and plays the ipod. http://www.logjamelectronics.com/bli...mlink1v1d.html
