Hello everyone, this form has really opened my eyes to how meticulous you need to be with your Disco. I am new to owning one and always had a dream and the right deal just fell into my lap. I am the proud owner of a 2000 with only 60K miles on it. The previous owner seemed to be pretty meticulous with the upkeep but ya never truly know. Is there any thing that I should know, kind of the basics on up keep and fluids and so on. Sorry to sound so clueless but I guess I am.
thanks, Alika ![]() |

Was a complete 60K service done on the truck?
Do you plan on alot of wheeling, if so, sometime we should talk about the t/case in your truck, it has a CDL feature for lots more traction off road. Also, crawl under and look where your front drive shaft hooks to the t/case, look at the 2 back u-joints, do they have grease fitting, if not, you need to have it rebuilt, cause your will fail and it can take out the tranny. I don't belive the 60k service was done, the closest Dealer is about 2 hours away from where we live. I will crawl underneath and see what it looks like. This will be more of a intown car with every blue moon off road fun.

How mechanical are you? The 60K is the major service, that I can walk you thru if you would like to save a good $500 plus.

Asome, I am somewhat Mechanical and most of those things in your list I can do. The Disco is in great shape which is nice, I did some looking before I bought it and the Oil and Oil Filter was just changed and also a new Air Filter. So after all is said and done I think I will be a happy man, *knock on wood*. My next question is about Gas, I have seen some wars about what type of gas to use. I live in Iowa and we have the Ethanol additive in our Super Unleaded Grade, But Should I still stick with Premium? I plan on using Premium but just wanted to know the whole story I guess. Thanks again for all the information this is making my transition from a 1996 Protégé to a Disco a Smooth and easy one... Plus my Wife now says I truly look like a man and not homeless person driving around a rusted out piece of shit. I also attached a picture of it...

I vote for saving yourself the headache, just use premium.
I know if I use anything else the power loss alone is worth the extra couple of bucks it costs to use premium, not to mention you'll loose any money saved in gas milage drop. Also mine knocks like crazy if I put anything else in it.
