Default Just saying hi from the UK

Hi everyone, I’m just introducing my self to you all.

I have been following your forum for some time now and found it very informative, thanks guys.

I’m from the UK and own a 2003 discovery 2 facelift TD5. I bought it with 36,000 miles on the clock and its done 50.000 miles now. I’ve had it for about a year and a half. When I bought it land rover took me and my wife off road to show us what it was capable of, when I say we went over the face of a quarry I mean it and reversed back out the same way we went in. What a fab 4x4 it is. I’ve had my problems like all of you but luckily nothing major (touch wood the saying goes over here) you’ve helped me cure my wet carpet problem, thanks disco mike.

Just for interest here are a few of the problems I’ve had since I bought it. I’m wondering if they are the norm.

Fuel pump/sender unit. That went between Christmas and New Year, I repaired it my self on the road it took about 20 minuets. Land Rover covered the cost.

The electric window actuator broke as I parked up late one night. I had to strip the entire door down to get it back up. My dealer put a new one in a couple of days later.

The ACE pipes were vibrating when you sent the engine into fast idle. My dealer strapped it up with foam and cable ties for free. It cured the problem.

The cream leather scuffed off the drivers seat. My Land Rover dealer put me in touch with the guys who do all the repairs for them. He came out to my work place and repaired it on site, you can’t tell, just like a new seat.

Wet carpets. I cleaned the drain plugs out either side of the transmission, what a job the one up behind the exhaust was.

The latest problem I’ve got is one of the third row seats is locked down in place and I can’t get the mechanism to work, I can get it back up if I work the latch with my fingers down in the floor well, any one got any idea how it works. I will take it in at some point but I’m not desperate.

Another thing I’ve noticed unless it’s me is I’m sure the rear electric sunroof opens slightly on its own cos I have to just nip it shut every now again.

One more thing you all may find interesting, the guy who does my tyres said to my amazement, the wheels on the discovery don’t need balancing, he looks after all the police discovery’s and never puts them on, they some times go well over the 100mph here in the UK. He took all the weights of mine and he’s rite, they run no different from when they had the weights on.

Hope you all found this interesting.

Cheers

Hi! From Georia. It's hot and humind and I always welcome the occasional rain shower. I'm jealous,I wish we had the TD5 option, but I'm still happy. I'v got an '04 with the 4.6L. It's sweet, I smile every time I turn the engine over, or take her for a "spirited" run.
I've had it for a year and have only had mostly minor problems. My front tires were cupped. I wanted to replace them anyway. I put some Nitto TG's and they are actually quieter that the wranglers ang give the Disco a more rugged appearance. I had the bushing in the passenger window replaced just recently because it make a popping sound when I rolled the window up. The dealer also oiled the squeak sun roofs. Don't have ACE but I don't miss it. The vehicle handles pretty good without it.
I have not experienced anything you and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for as much trouble free driving as possible.

My seat done the same try pushing down on it and then working the handle to release it up. Once you get it to release lube it with some spray lube. This fixed my problem.

Thanks Bluelion.
I'll give that a go, I've not had chance yet I had to replace one of the head light bulbs yesterday, that’s the 3rd since I’ve had it, all different ones though.

Hi Bird and Devildisco thanks for your replies.
We've just had an heat wave here in the UK its starting to cool down now. I must admit the aircon in the Discovery was great.

Cheers
