Landrover Td5 Discovery 2.8 Question.

Hello, Ive just brought a new Landrover discovery after part exchanging my old one.

Its a Discovery Td5 XS 2.8 and was meant to be shipped to South Africa after it was registered. Are there many about in the country as Im told they are very rare.

Anyone give me any information etc?

Where are you located? To the best of my knowledge, Discoveries have only ever been made with 2.5 litre diesel or 3.5 - 4.0 litre petrol engines. The Series 2 Disco has a 5 cylinder, 2.5 litre diesel engine.

hi desertman im in the uk i only got the car on the 5th of jan but i think its a log book missprint myself but the seller insisted its a 2.8. so im off to land rover to get it check out, if it is a 2.8 it will be a bonus ha ha cheers john

go look on the www.discoverownersclub.com site and ask the same question
normaly all td5's were of 2.5td with 5 bearing crank, other D2 options were V8i
if its a 2.8 then it is a converstion, the engine being imported from brazil as a rebored 2.5 TDi, which is problomatic as the TD5 relies so much on electronics for engine management and auto gearbox

not immpossable, highly unliklely even for an export model to S.A
more true will be the log book misprint and an over enthusiastic seller.
what ever the outcome, he will find the info if he looks at enough web sites, in particular i would have thought he would check the insurance out before purchase. and being in the UK a subscription to the discovery owners club would not be wasted
