Anyone ever leak test the SLS suspension??? Looks like mine has the dreaded slow leak....rear goes down after a couple days of sitting and would like to find the cause....would the old spray bottle with soap and water do the trick??? or is the leak always in the bags???
And does outside temp changes seam to affect it more??? we are having some nice hot days but the night temps are cold enough for frost in the morning...... thanks, Dean ps: no driving probs with it at this time |

Dean,
Usually when both sides drop evenly over a couple of days it is more related to the control unit. My 99 is leaking over 2 days of standing and only the drivers side drops, I have a bad seal on that bag and will be replacing them both, do to high mileage with new aftermarket bags from, http://www.arnottindustries.com/ who is the best supplier of replacement bags. They are of a newer better desing, cost way less and have a lifetime warranty. As for your truck, yes, a bottle of slightly soapy water sprayed on the bags, line and fittings will be a help for you. If you crawl under your drivers seat you will see the control unit and pump, remove the cover and spray only the lines and fittings. If you don't find anything, head to the dealer and have then hook up the old test book to check the system. You can have electrical problems even though they are rare they happen. Do this soon, the SLS pump will burn out on you soon and then you will be looking at a much larger repair bill. Mike |

Don't let the dealer sell you some new bags, if needed take a look at that web site I sent you. Mike |

Dean,
Replacing the bags is pretty easy, if you buy from the group I suggested, I believe they send instructions. It has been a long weekend, can't hardily remember my name, won't be much help today. Make sure you buy 2 bags, and keep the one old one as a back up just in case. If I remember right, jack up the trucks frame so the bags stretchs out ,loosen the 2 air hose where they go into the pump unit, let them bleed down slowly, don't take them all the way off, just enough to leak, that way you won't damage the o-rings. the hardest part is removing the hose from the top of the old air bags, other then taht should only take you less then 20 minutes a side to replace. Once you have both the new bags installed, let the truck down slowly turn on the key and let the bags air up. Should be about right, no special tools needed. Mike |
