Default Lets Face it...

these vehicles are cursed. They're horribly unreliable. They're cool to look at from afar, but not when your sitting in the dealers lot waiting to pay a bill for something that should've been engineered properly in the first place. Hell, Ford did'nt even want to use the motor that landrover decided to put in.
And to top it off, here in los angeles, the resale of theese beasts is a crime. 01-03's with low mileage are only being sold for around 7-10k - wow.

I Love mine...no problems...and if one evr does come up I fix it and not the dealer. Don't put down the trucks. I would put money that there has been a lemon honda before too, maybe you just got a dud!

To each their own, I have had good luck with the 2 I own right now. Tobe real honest my 89 RR was pretty damn good(great actually) considering the mileage(over 200K). Never thought twice about driving it the 8 and a half hoursback home...never let me down either.

Looks like you got yourself a Toyoti at just the right time to see their reliability take a dive too.

BTW what is this doing in the tech section????

I've had great luck with my 91 147k and going strong. Maybe it's all in doing the maintenance yourself so you catch things before they do real damage not that I have done that much other than oil changes and a tune up.

Not for nothing but is there any reason your going into various threads to whine and complain? You had a bad experience and you vented it in your own thread why go and screw up good tech threads with your verbal garbage about these horrible trucks.

Guess what on all vehicles things break it happens even to the amazing toyota lord knows we had alot of problems with a toyota pickup and 36k it lost a bushing in its little 22r motor that blocked the oil passage and destroyed the motor. at 54k it had a faulty axle that sheard off while driving 65 mph allowing the rear tire to pass us. AC went out yearly in it as well. Do I hate toyotas? Nope just realize that truck was a turd and moved on. I've had fords that were great cars and I have had ones that were junk same with gm. It's all in the car you have and how it's cared for. No matter how well built a car is it's going to have problems sooner or later it's inevitable and the less it's cared for the worse it is later.

You want to complain about your horrible POS Land Rover great by all means do it but don't screw up a perfectly good tech thread that helped others fix their rover with your little piss and moans. Everyone here loves their Rover and will continue to do so they aren't for everyone, but for 95% of those of us here they are just what we are looking for and accept them quirks and all.

Good luck with your Toyota! Happy trails

Default Wrong website

'00 115,000 not a single problem. Never darkend a dealers lot (with oil that is). I can't say that about my last 2 vehicles.

Hard to believe someone would go on a sight called LAND ROVERS ONLY and complain about LAND ROVERS........Kinda putting yourself out there for A LOT of criticism.

Thats kind of like going to a forum about bananas and saying "Bananas suck, apples rule." A lot of "banana" lovers are going to take great offense.

More than likely because they didn't want a GM designed powerplant in a Ford.

That's a plus in my book, any new car is a rip off. I buy used.
IMO--Toyotas are a rip-off used.

i've only had a few little things go wrong...much more reliable than my last car (blew an engine, blew a supercharger, went through countless belts and batteries) this D2 is looking really reliable to me right now lol

Sorry but i have to agree with JMAN, they are cursed, even though there there is a small minority of people here who have had no major problems, i must agree that Rovers can be horrible
But i still Love em to DEATH!

you guys don't have a clue what un-reliable really is. I've owned Sarah Jane my '74 TR6 since new - now that's ureliability at it's heighth. Rebuilt the engine and transmission at 48K miles, the entire suspension - coils, springs, shims, body mounts, shocks, etc. twice, I've come back from the airport only to find that absolutely nothing happens when you turn the key, and the list goes on . . . Like the Disco's, it's beautiful too . . . and of course I love it too.

123Guy... Saying that a Land Rover is more reliable than a Triumph is like saying that indigo isn't as dark as charcoal. I mean really, is it fair to compare one British vehicle to another? Of course, I say this because I would love to have a TR6 to wrench on too.

Having said that... I must say that my Jaguar has been very good to me, and my 17 year old Range Rover has been even better. Sure, there are problems with Discos, especially now that they all have some mileage on them. But I really don't think that a well maintained Land Rover is any less reliable than a well maintained Japanese truck.

The Disco is my wife's, and it's actually pretty reliable. The ultimate reliability though is my daily driver, Elvira, my old Mercedes 300CD, she's got 216K miles and runs like a top, never had any engine, transmission or rear work - being a diesel, it will probably outlive me. Fortunately the TR6 has been downgraded to "toy" status.

I don't normally like to go off on anyone on any board I am a member of but its threads like these that at first just poke at my patience but in the end, you separate the people who feel like they need to have a "different" vehicle to get from point A to point B...from the True Enthusiasts.

Creating a thread to bash on the marque for which the board's existance is based on, is like walking into an Argentinian's home during a weekend BBQ and telling him that a pork prepared Cuban-style is better than his steak....both are good, and completely different flavors but it's a scenario you WANT to avoid at all costs. In the end, the Argentinian will continue to make his kick ass Vacio and Entrana (the last N is suppose to have the ~ over it) and the Cuban will continue to make the VERY tasty Puerco...so for someone to start goin off about how one isnt as good as the other is pointless

Rant = Off

JMan, enjoy your Toyota...hope it does everything you need it to do.

The fact that you have to take your car to a dealer to be serviced speaks volumes about your lack of mechanical skills. You'll be happy with the toyota - they were designed for people like you...
