Default Long-term parking

Hey guys, my brother just purchased a '99 DII (I'll get him to LRO, just wait) and he asked me about long-term parking of his rig. Is there anything special that needs to be done. He's going to be gone for 30 days.

On my '95 DI I just top off fluids/fuel, cover the air intake and disconnect the battery, but he's worried about all the electronic doo dads that may be affected by this practice.

Any advice?

TIA

It would be good if the engine oil was fairly clean. Tell him to have a set of jumper cables in the truck just incase his battery is old.
Does he has SLS, does it leak at all, if it does, he may be a little low in the rear when he get back.
Might want to fill up the fuel tank, keep the condensation down.
Mine is a 99, it has been parked for a couple of weeks before with no problems so tell him he should be fine.

Fill tank up with gas......... pack extra fluid (oil.coolent) and you should be good...... My parents RR sat for 45 days with no prob..just a slightly weakend battery...still started but needed a jump

I use to ship out (2 months on, 1 month off) and that's all I ever did to my rover and she would always start up fine. Also recommend a healthy interior and exterior cleaning (wax etc) and spraying down the engine bay w/ WD-40 to keep moisture at bay. Just be warned that the manifold will smoke for a few minutes when you start it from the soaked in WD-40. No biggy though...

If you have access to your brothers truck you could aways take it for a drive once a week...will help keep the rust off the rotors. Don't forget to check the tire pressure as well, nothing worse than finding out you have a flat when you get back......later, Dean

Man, do I wish I had access to his rig - I'd drive the crap out of it!

Small issue with geography, though: he's in Miami and I'm in Bolivia...

Rusty rotors, good thought - any other way to keep them "shiny"? I would imagine that a couple of weeks worth of rust should come off pretty quickly. I'll them him about checking the tires. Thanks!

That's what my old man does, takes it out once or twice a month while I'm in Bolivia all this year. Brand new battery, full tank, no problems.

Good luck!
