Default Look what I just picked up!

I actully was looking at this for a friend, but ended up buying for myself. I have a DI, and this was too good of a deal to pass up. It is a 99 DII, 111,000 miles. It had the sicky vlave problem, PO had work done less than 1000 miles ago, at the dealer for $2800.00 It is pretty clean, everything works except fog lights, and cruise.
I don't know if I like it more than my DI, but I will try it out for a while! Looking at it, does it have a lift on it? It rides kinda rough, and looks higher than ones I have seen before Anyway, I am going through it tonight, and check all the other things on it. It also has a slight vibration over 65mph. I know about the front drive shaft thing. It does have greasable u-joints, maybe it just needs to be greased?

I think it looks great and the lift on those 18's looks very good I would keep it the way it is and use the D1 for wheeling and use your D2 as the get around wheeler. As I said it looks great. welcome to the 2 disco family I'm right there with ya.

Great deal. nice looking truck.
Do you know how to fix the cruise control, the lifter noiseand the fog lights, if not get back and we can walk thru it. I also have a 99DII, that was a good year even with all the changes.

Looks pretty clean, good luck with it. The rims are from an '02 or '03.

Actually, I read some posts on the cruise control subject. I checked all of the vacuum hoses. They all seemed to be fine. I don't know if the vacuum pump is working though! As far as the fog lights, the switch on the dash doesn't "toggle" maybe it is bad?? I have not had time to break it apart yet. The, I guess, lifter noise, is still present. It almost sounds like an exhaust leak, When I start the truck, It doesn't start until the rpms level out. I would think the dealership would have noticed that? However it still isnt that loud, just noticeable. I looked underneath the truck, the front drive shaft, I ASSUME has been updated, there are zerk fittings on the universals! It also looks like a aluminium weld spot on the oil pan, perhaps it came apart at one time. l I greased all of the universals, seems to have knocked some vibs out! The rear drive shaft U/J does not want to take grease, looks like it hasn't had any in a long while. May have to replace it.

This truck is so much different than my DI. What is the deal with the "anti- roll system" on this truck. Designed for turns? Is it supposed to make weird noises?
Ohh, on the way back, I got 18.18mpg, is that normal. I was quite impressed!

The mileage sounds about right....mines running about the same. As for the ACE system [corner control] yes it makes funny noises, more noticible when you get out of the truck. It is designed so the vehicle does not role as much during cornering giving better drivability [i'm sure it's also to help avoid roll overs as well].

As for the rear ujoint[s] that won't take grease...replace the grease zerk first and see if it takes grease as they do seize if they are not used regularly....

Just guessing at the noise but you maybe correct that it could be an exhaust leak but they are usualy heard all the time, not just at idle...have you tried changing the oil??? I know some VW's don't like certain oil grades and the engine does really funny things.......

The fog light switch on mine just pushes in and pops out...there is a little red indicator light on the switch that lights up as well....make sure the headlights are in the ON position but low beam only as they will not work on high beam.

PM me if you have any question as to what is what....my truck is pretty much the same...later, Dean

Yeah, LOL! I think I am pushing the right one. I also tried the rear lights, same thing. The "red" indicator light does NOT come on on either switch! and they BOTH don't toggle! As far as the other coments, first it has only had now 700 miles since the DEALER rebuilt the top end. This includes putting in new exhaust gaskets, and changing oil. I also changed out the zerk, still the grease would only spit out the sides of the zerk, not go into it. I say the old grease is hard, and won't let any new stuff in

Sounds like a nice truck, just need to work out the bugs. As for the ACE, I have it along with the SLS air bags, both wrk well and improved the ride over a D1. The ACE will probably need servicing, since most shops don't even know what it is, I can walk you thru that when you are ready.
If it was Rover dealer that did the top end, you need to have then address the noice, any repair from the dealer is covered for 1 year and unlimited mileage.
As for the jerks, did you inspect the front double cardon on the front shaft where it connects to the t/case, are you sure it has jerks?
Well look forward to seeing what you do with the truck.

Well how do I know the ACE is working? Do the Air bags pump up in the front? When I corner I hear something, the PO told me it was the "ACE" system. (I am going to search posts on this one)Actually, the ride is much stiffer than my DI. I don't know why though. It looks like it has a lift on it, It may have stiffer springs installed However it seems more stable than my DI, and less bouncy! Yes I am am sure the front double cardon has zerks. I greased all of them with a gun, it looks newer than the rear drive shaft also! The truck looks like it had been taken off-road quite a bit.

Question about the dealer, does it have to be the dealer that did the work, check it out? Land Rover of Houston(2hrs) is Closer than Baton Rouge(3hrs)

Ace is always working at some level, depending on how it has been serviced. If it is having a problem, you will get a warning light on your cluster, until it cools down. You have a new truck and one of the first thing I advise everybody to do, is to change all fluids just as long term protection.
Glad someone changed out the double cardon. Sometime when you get a chance, put jerks into both the drive shafts slip joints, they are drill and capped at the factory, so it is easy to thread in a jerk.
As for the ride, look at the ACE sway bars, they are hugh compared to what you had on your D1, makes for alot more control. If some one has changed out the springs and shock, it will be a little firmer but have lots more control on and off the road.
Call a dealer close to you, tell them of your problem, I have had one dealer fx a problem and another dealer warranty the repair. The new dealer will need to have a copy of the original repair order from the selling dealer and you are set.
