Default Looking at 2001 LR Disco.. What should I look for?

Hi,

I am new to the forum and this forum seems like the one of the most comprehensive forums for LR around the net. Thanks for making this place very informative.

Now I have a few questions.

I am looking at 2001 LR Disco with 75000miles on it. I haven't look at it yet but I am trying to figure out what I should be watching or pay special attention to other than the typical and specific to the disco?

You don't need to dumb down your answers, just go ahead and fire it away with technical terms and what not. So I can surprise the used car salesman.

And

What are the things that can go wrong that require the dealer to fix? Like ECU and Sensors... that require special diagnostic tools? where can I pick up the land rover factory service manual or CD?

TIA

I'm not sure how much more we could give you to look at aside from the list on lrrforum that is linked in that thread. That is a real comprehensive list of all items to look at.

buying used check list - Land Rover Repair Forums - LRRForums.com

I will add if your not mechanically inclined have a indie LR Shop look it over. If you post a thread with your local and that your looking for a good indie mechanic someone will usually know of one.

What would the LR shop do different from regular shop?

I was hoping to find out the details because it seems like from the search, there is not really a good LR shop near where I live. I will probably have to take it to a regular shop and have them look at it.

I have OBD II scanner, where is the OBD port on the 2001?

One thing to look for is if it has a CDL nipple or not. If you plan on using it as an off road vehicle any, this will be an invaluable addition. Early '01 have it...late '01s do not.

Use the search feature. DiscoMike has posted some photos that will show you EXACTLY what to look for.

Default Why?

I don't have the CDL, why did Rover decide to take this option off? Didn't it have something to do with the traction control?
