Default Looking for non-dealer Rover mechanic in No Colo or No Illinois

What a great forum!! I've owned three Rovers and have had my current one since Oct '99 and am just now finding this site.

Here's the problem: I have an oil leak and am told by the dealer that it is the head gasket. I first noticed the leak after an oil change about a year ago. The Disco has been sitting in the garage since that time and driven only once or twice a month (probably only 150 miles put on it in the last year as I am currently out of the country). I've not had the oil changed since that time but had someone check the oil level and it looks like there is too much oil in it--even after it's been slowly dripping onto the garage floor for the past year! I'm beginning to wonder if that caused the leak. If so, I'm not very happy with my old mechanic in Washington state.

Anyhow, I will be returning in a few weeks and would like to get the leak fixed but the dealership wants $1800 (plus another $895 for the 60,000 mile service). I would love to find someone in either Northern Colorado, where the vehicle is currently located, or Northern Illinois (north of Chicago) where I'll be moving to do the work (hopefully for less money).

It sounds like leaks are very common and I've been told that if I just keep checking the oil level I don't need to worry. Unfortunately, I'm very anal and don't like the idea of oil coating the entire bottom of my vehicle or my garage floor.

I appreciate any guidance you can provide.

Get in touch with Robert Colombin, he owns a shop in EverGreen Colorado, 25 years of experience and a really great mechanic. He just recently did my head gaskets for me.
His shop is called, M.I.T.
