I am looking at buying a 04 Discovery 2, G4 edition. it is a one owner car. Fairly well takin car of. 60K miles. The engine is seeping at almost every seal. I have a friend who is a very good mechanic that is willing to reseal the whole motor for $700 pus about $400 in parts. I can pick up the discovery for around $10K (have connections). This a deal I should jump on? This would be my first rover, just concerned about long term reliability. It has a clean history. It is missing the std. front brush guard as previous owner didnt care for it and removed it.

thats a damn good price.
for reference I just picked up a 04 SE7, although with only 33K miles, certified with ~42k miles of warranty left for ~20K. and I thought that was a good deal. paying 10K for that, plus say 2K in repairs and 3K for an extended warranty still puts you well ahead.

Go for it, and welcome to the club. If you are worried about long term reliability, just be prepared to give the truck some regular attention and she should treat you great. Watch fluids, do regular matainance, etc. If you have a "buddy" that can change the seals, he should be able to take care of most any other problem you might encounter.
I've had almost no problems with my '00 at 118k. I've changed a few seals here and there, broke a hood release cable, new MAF...nothing I wouldn't expect on a high milage car. Sounds like a steal really...if you don't buy it, let me know I might welcome another rover to the family!
