Well, I did some searching on here and asked a few questions before doing some routine maintenance. Thanks for the help guys! Looks like it may pay off for me. I was averaging alittle better then 17 mpg. The last tank of gas I checked before servicing the truck was actually 17.269 mpg. I checked my milage when I filled up today and got a surprise. Come out to be 18.135 mpg. That may not sound like much, but I am happy for every bit of improvement with the gas prices going up so much. I will have to keep a check on it to see if it stays that good.
The maintenance I did included Mobil 1 0W-40 synthetic oil, Mobil 1 oil filter, and Amsoil products in the transmission, transfer case, and differentials. I also put some Seafoam through it. I let it go in to fast and fouled a plug (P0307 cylinder 7 misfire). So, I also changed them using NGK Iridium IX plugs. So far it is running smooth. I hope the mpg doesn't drop back off. Again, thanks to everyone for the help. |

I am now a bigger fan than I was the Disco II. You have definitely hit the nail on the head with maintenance making a difference. I have been watching my Disco like a hawk, and actually had to replace my head gaskets. So all fluids in the engine were changed, tranny fluid for good measure as well. I just went through my first tank of gas. Filled up tonight, 20 miles to the gallon nearly on the dot!!! Better than the POS 4 door Blazer that I used to drive. Of course 20 gallons cost me a pretty penny at the pumps for 91 octane, but I am happy and that is what matters.

changed my wires and plugs to OE a couple weeks back and my fuel efficiency has improved by around 10-15%. The shop that did my head gasket last year put NGK plugs in my v8 4.0, which I was told was all wrong by my LR mechanic. He put in new wires (I had the original 8 year old wires that came with the truck in there) and plugs (champion double platinum). Now once I deal with this annoying idler pulley that squeals like a banshee, I will be up to date.
