Default Maintenance Questions

I finally fixed my Sticky Valve problem, now its time to get to some maintenance issues. First, I have experience changing brakes on the cars . However, I have never attempted to change brakes on the truck. Now, I feel like its time to change the rear brakes and rotors on the disco. Can I just pull them off and replace? Will it be necessary to bleed the system if I don't open anything. Any special tools. Secondly, differential, should I have them flushed and refilled. Thirdly, on the tranny, do I have it flushed and filter changed. I am still new to the Disco scene so please tell me. By the way Gumout engine flush and Redline Fuel system cleaner is awesom cured my problem (sticky valve) Now, my disco will get Redline every month and will replace one quart of Castrol with Mystery oil to keep her clean and engine flush if needed.

For the brakes, go to DAP, Rover Connection or Atlantic British on the web, price and compare for the best pad/rotor combinations. Yes you must flush the brakes, Rovers get soft pedals anyway so plan on at least 3 quarts of fluid, one can of brake cleaner spray and one can of brake slencer to put on the back of the brake pads. The only special tool is a hand held impact driver witha #4 phillips head so you can remove the rotors. When you get ready to do it, I would be glad to walk you thru it, easy job.
Buy eight qts of 80/90W gear oil for the 2 diffs and t/case, by the way, you don't have to flush the diffs or t/case unless you got water in them. Are you planning on doing the tranny yourself, if so get the kit from one of the above mentioned suppliers and 6 qts. of Dextron 3 from the auto parts store. If you really wanted to treat the tranny, buy one bottle of lucas trannt additive in place of some ATF.
Hope this helps, by the way, what year is the truck and how many miles on it?

Tranny is easy to dump but the fun part is getting it back in,

You need a suction gun or a pump of some sort to put it back in.

and all it takes is regular Dextron Three.

Nothing special.

but it gets only seven quarts.

If you want it all I would suggest a bg flush.

does all sixteen quarts.

problem is you may have to go only to a LR shop cause they will be only ones with the adaptors.

But anyone with a latest pump which is version 4 I believe should have it. The latest version comes with a whole set up for any car. I know this cause we have the latest version. the older versions only have a few adaptors and they would have to buy the adaptor for it.

And with the pressure in the lines it only takes about fifteen minutes to change all the fluid.

Mike, its a 2000 with 86,000 miles on it. Guys thanks for the information. I have never done maintenance on a Truck let, alone 4x4, So, I think I will be going to a local Landrover independent shop. This will just take too much time. The wife and I are house hunting and once I get the garage I can save the money. Printing off the info and thanks again.

I understand about the issues of time and would suggest you take your time, do a little every month and save a lot of money, and you will learn what makes your truck tick.
