Default manual shift and sport shift lights blinking?

just got my '99 Disco II from my mech with a new fuel pump and made two short drives tonight. After the last one I turned the key over to see if it would start again and the (M)anual (S)port and drive (light on the gear box) started blinking! the truck turns and turns but doesn't catch. This is what forced me to have it towed yesterday to my mech. Oh I left the truck and got a ride to work and the tow truck driver said it started up for him and he drove it on the flat bed.

in the last 3 months the famous trio of lights(TC,ABS,and forget the last one) have come on for maybe 5 minutes and then have gone away. The check engine light came on for the last two weeks and then shut off after the fuel pump was installed. Btw my mech said there wasn't any codes. I noticed the truck was idling funny over the last few weeks so I got an oil change friday as well as a treatment to clean the pistons at Oil Changers. After the oil change the truck ran alot better, but it has sped up twice now on its own for a split second almost like the treatment is still working or something?

I've owned the vehicle since last Oct. and have only had to change the heater core thus far.

is it safe to drive if I can get it started? or should I try to make my mech pay for the tow truck to come out? also I was thinking of asking him for the original fuel pump to have it tested somewhere to see if he actually did the pressure test like he said.

any help is appreciated!

Check for low voltage at the battery and bad battery cable connections.
