is it me or is HDC too fast? - Land Rovers Only

hey,
i was doin' a little wheelin' last night and was going down a steep hill, i tried using the Hill Decent Control, but i felt like i was gonna roll it was going so fast, so i stopped and went down manually, was i being chicken, or is it supposed to take a hill that fast???

HDC works really great if you follow a couple of steps. You should be in low range and depending on what gear your transmission is in will depend on how much stopping power you will get. In 4th. gear it has a slowing effect, in 1st. gear it will only allow you to crawl.
Try it next time you are out wheeling.

I think its too fast... well at least for rocky, technical declines... i just keep it in lo-1st, and work the brakes a bit.

I hear what you are saying, then again I forgot that my 4:11's help the hill decent quite a bit.
So restating, I still like HDC and it is not designed for real technical driving, just the typical hills, mud and snow.

yep, way too fast on the DII's. on the LR3 they slowed HDC down by about half i believe, much better feeling. think Discos are set about 5mph and LR3 is around 2mph? was actually curious if there was a way to reprogram the computer for a slower descent?

Surely HDC is computer controlled so you should be able to get it altered by a garage with a diagnostics machine. Not sure about this but it makes sense to me!

I would bet DII's HDC can't be recalibrated to a slower crawl like the LR3 mainly because the LR3 has a much better brake system, larger rotors capable of handeling the extra heat.

I think the key is what kind of terrain you are going down. If you are going down something you have to navigate through then HDC in my opinion is not the way to go. For a steep pretty straight incline and you want to show off to your buddies then HDC is the way to go lol.

I used the HDC on lo-1st if it was just a straight down...

if it's a steep descent with rocks and stuff to go through...I use the brakes...

is that the right thing to do?
