Metal on Metal rubbing noise from steering - Land Rovers Only

Hey guys. I have a 2002 Disco II with 3" RTE lift and 265 MT's. I'm getting a very strong rubbing noise from the steering when parking or turning into at times and more frequently, backing out and turning out of parking spaces. Seems to be more obvious in very slow speeds when turning hard. It's not the tires rubbing on the control arms, it's just before that and sounds like a big chunk of metal rubbing on another big chunk of metal or maybe a big metal bar (steering bar) rubbing inside a sleeve or gear. You can feel it through the steering wheel. I have one month of extended total care warranty left and want to get everything checked before it expires. Any ideas what this might be??

Check you p/s pump and see if it is failing causing the pulley to move in and out under load.

Okay. That makes sense although it sounds like a much deeper sound than a pulley would make. I guess it can attenuate up the steering shaft.
