I know this is going to sound pretty stupid, but I just purchased a 2000 Disco II and still trying to figure somethings out. I know some of the ?'s i have should be in the manual but it did not come with one. What is the mode button for under the gear selector? I appreciatte any help, I am just a college kid looking for some adventure in this peice of machinery.

Lady-
The 'mode' button engages a 'sport' mode to your truck. It will rev higher before shifting and be overall a little snappier. It will also decrease your fuel economy if that sort of thing matters to you. Keep the questions coming, and Rover on! Todd |

Thanks Pinarello. One more question. How come I can take this beast through any mud or water but as soon as i get one tire off the ground i'm screwed. Every time i cross a ditch it seems like i have to get someone to level me out before i can go on

Hi Landy,
The mode button next to the gear selector does two things, if you press it when your driving in the high box it will do what pinarello says and you will see an S show in the instrument panel, this stands for sport mode. If you press the mode button when you push the transmission lever forward into low ratio, an M will appear in the instrument panel, this means manual mode, you will be able to select any of the 4 forward gears in this mode from a stand still. For example you would be able to start in 4th. Your Land Rover Discovery is also fitted with what is called anti-stall, so if you let it crawl along under its own power with out using the accelerator it will change down a gear before it stalls, until it reaches 1st gear, then it will automatically increase the power on its own, very clever. When Jupiter says the diffs are open he means you haven’t locked the differential, if you don’t know how to do this its fairly easy. All you do is flick the lever you use to select the low range over to the left as shown in the diagram on the bulk head, NEVER use this when driving on solid surfaces, it could do a lot of damage. The later Land Rover Discovery’s don’t have the diff lock has Land Rover replaced it with traction control which automatically sends the power to the wheels that have grip. You’ll find a lot of info about this subject and what models can be altered if you search the forum. Hope this helps. Last edited by discofacelift : 08-20-2008 at 05:13 PM. |

Landy - don't bother ordering a manual. You can find and download a copy of the RAVE CD which is the workshop tech manual and all of the owners manuals. You should find a link on this forum somewhere. You can't open the files by clicking on them - you need to write them to a CD or download some freeware (Virtual Clone Drive) from the link below that mimics a CD and allows you to open the RAVE files.

Hi Auwesman,
I stand corrected, thanks for the info. I new they stopped putting the difflock on the later models but I didn't quite know which year it was. Just for the record what year did they stop putting the difflocks on? Thanks in advance. |

So am I to understand that my 03 Disco has CDL just no locking mechanism to engage it?? This would be AWESOME! I saw that Atlantic British sells a stock looking lever for engaging a CDL. It talked about a mod of some sort for folks without the lever, but I blew it off. Do y'all know if this lever will work? This is good stuff!!!
