Unhappy my 2000 disco won't start

Hi please help, my 2000 discovery won't start, I'm desperate! These are some codes that appear P0336, P0335 and P1415 and my mechanic is not sure what seems to be the issue. I really can't afford to spend money guessing what the issue is.

Thanks

well if your mechanic was pretty decent Im sure the first thing is he would have checked to see what the codes mean. i just used google and got the answer within thirty seconds.

and 0335 means a crankshaft position sensor. if he studied any diagram then I am sure he would have checked to make sure that the fuel pump was actually getting power before throwing in an expensive fuel pump? is that what he did, cause the crankshaft position sensor sends the signal to the vehicle to start pumping fuel. really easy in fact most vehicles if not all obd two vehicles use a crankshaft position sensor to ascertain if they send fuel or not.

There have been a rash of crank sensors failing lately, when this happens the ECU won't turn on the fuel pump cause the crank sensor doesn't show that the engine is turning over.
That is where you need to start.

Default My 2000 Land rover discovery will not start either

I recently purchased this Disc, knowing that there were issues. I drove it home. It wouldnt let me punch the throttle with out it wanting to die. Once I got home the truck wont start know, I even tried an old idea of using starting fluid to see if it could run off that, and it just kept turning. I also have the S and M buttons flashing. Any help would be great. thanks

i was having a very similar problem with the lights flashing and the not starting. i changed the crankshaft position sensor and this seemed to clear up the flashing lights as well.
get your codes read at an autoparts store, they will generally do this for free, you could also ask around to see if any of your buddies have one (my brother does, i had no idea).

the codes should be in your manual but if not you can find them here

Land Rover Discovery II: Proprietary OBDII Codes > Northwest Overland Society > Most Recent

if you go to a mechanic try to find one who has experience with land rovers or at least imports. when you find a guy you feel comfortable with get and share the RAVE manual. this will teach you a of of things you should know as well as having all tech specs for your rig. check back here often and make good use of the search function. now with that being said i found the crankshaft position sensor at autopartswarehouse for around sixty bucks, made by bosch, the same company that made the engine (for the engine that they made). i see no reason to pay twice as much for the same product when the only difference is the label on the box it comes in. took me about an hour and a half to do change it myself with very little mechanical knowledge, this is rapidly changing though.
