Ahoy Everyone! I just got back from the shop with some bad news. My engine is leaking coolant like a siv from every gasket imaginable. I had a faulty radiator overflow cap this summer and it caused hoses to break a few times and I finally replaced the cap and it's been fine. Although I have noticed the coolant needing topped of about once a month and I assumed it was coming from a hose that I have yet to replace. Now that I know it's coming out of the head gaskets and water pump gasket, it looks like I'm going to have to get dirty. I've done this sort of thing before on my 57 Buick's engine, and it went fairly smoothly, with the exception of lining up the incredibly heavy iron heads. I'm nervous about the rover though. With all of the modern componentry and how far back it sits in relation to the firewall, how close will this job be to a classic V8? My first step would be to order the new parts, gaskets and hoses (Since I assume there's a few that are weakened). I'll then want to flush the coolant system (I'd like a how to on that also). Then do the gaskets up. I have all the tools and even downloaded the PDF that DiscoMike was so kind to provide everyone for the shop manual. Now all I need is a bit of step by step and a nice pat on the butt from coach....maybe a few prayers too.
Might want to download a free copy of the Rave CD, shop manual, it's a great guide.
I will be glad to walk you thru what needs to be done and where to buy your parts, which is important.

Make sure you don't buy any parts made in China and make sure to get new 8 mm silicone plug wires and some head bolt thread lube.

Right on, this all looks like some very helpful information. I downloaded the shop manual from Mike so that's good. Especially since I can't find one for print online. I was thinking of getting my parts from rock auto.com. Any objections? They usually have a pretty good selection and prices. Unless anyone knows a less expensive source...
