Default New Disco owner in So. Cal.

Hi! Everybody! First of all, I would like to say how grateful I am to be part of this great club/forum! Everyone has been very generous and willing to share ideas to new and old members alike! Thank you. Btw, I'm new member here in so cal. I am a proud owner of an 01 disco se, purchased it about a week 1/2 ago. I got for 4500 with 90,000 miles on the clock from a Brit from Orange county. truck is mint well maintain with records on file serviced from a Rover specialist. I love this truck!, 90,000 miles seviced has been done by the po including new maf, new alternator, new f/r brake rotors and pads, sepentine belts, at/differential fluids, coollingsytem flushed, new plugs and wires. I just changed the engine oil with rotella t 15w40 and mobil 1 filter 2 days ago. Also the po had changed the the se tires and wheels for 18 hurricanes and nitto terragrapler about 5 mos. ago. But He also, gave me the stock 16 inchers for spares. So far truck has been great! This truck is awsome, Although, I'm new with Land rovers, I'm willing to learn only from the best! alot of people says that our truck has reliability issues, Is it true? I'm not new in offroading, I have a 97 Lexus lx 450 aka Toy land cruiser Locked and loaded mildly lifted for DD and 94 Fullsize Blazer Locked , 4.56 f/r gears 6 in. Rcd full suspension lift for fun. Anyways, sorry for the long intro. Here's a picture of my new toy! Thanks again!

WOW !!! Nice ride !! All that for 4500.-.,, and only 90K ?? what a deal. As for reliability., just keep doing what your doing with the up-keep and you should have minimalprobs at best. Some of the older discos (4.0l) have had problems with leaking power steering fluid from the high pressure hose, oil seepage from the pass. side valve cover gasket (easy fix) and gear wear on the diff. output shaft causing a noticeable "clunk" when put in reverse.
these were the problems I had with the '98 disco I owned, and my current ride ('94 disco) has the p/s fluid leak (minimal) and a " to "clunk" to boot.
as for the output shaft., I researched the prob. online and decided not to worry about it too much as it is a wear-in , not a worn-out problem. dan

Disco's are crashing in value. I wish the parts would do the same. Very disapointed in Land Rover resell. One of the worst resell values I have ever seen.

Your disco will be very reliable if your willing to pop open the hood every now and then and give it a little TLC. It isn't a truck you can weld the hood shut on and just hope it runs forever, but with regular maintance it should last you 200,000 and beyond. Welcome to the forum.

Default Driveshaft??

Check those records and see if the front driveshaft has been replaced.

Also check if you have the CDL nipple.
