Default New to the Land Rover World

Hey everyone, I just registered to this website because I'm planning on buying a Disco II. Here is the Disco I'm planning in buying. http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...ng=&cardist=40
I have some questions about some issues.
1. It needs a valve cover gasket. How much does this cost to get repaired? I was told LR parts are expensive, that's why I'm asking.
2. It has a CD changer but the magazine is missing. Where is a good place to purchase a CD magazine and how much will it cost?
3. It's missing a fender flare on the pass. side rear door. Where can I get a replacement and how much $$$?
4. The SES light is on. Is this a major problem? It seems to drive real nice.
The Disco is in decent shape, otherwise, for having 103k miles on it.
Thanks in advance for any help or info.

P.S.
I didn't buy this yet, but if things go well, I'll probably buy it on Monday or Tuesday.

Well here goes, all 4wheelers are pricey to repair so don't be to alarmed.
For now, don't worry about the leaking v/c gasket. I would suggest you take that truck to another shop for a sale evaluation before you buy make sure they check for leaking head gaskets, both diffs and the drive lines. You are looking at a lot of miles, not to say it can't handle them, but you should plan on a complete service before you do much with it. That would be all fluids, plugs, wires maybe O2 sensors and whatever shows up.
The cD magazine can be bought at any dealer or at
http://www.roverconnection.com/
The check engine light should be checked by the selling dealer and repaired, this is law in most states.
I can't impress upon you enough, have the truck checked before you buy, the price seems pretty good and you don't want to take out a second loan getting it up to good operating condition.
Hope it works for you, if you have any other questions get back to us.
Mike

That's cool. I still think I'm gonna buy it, but thanks for the advice and help. The Disco seemed solid on the test drive. I will get everything looked at if I buy it because I'm relying on this to be my daily driver. They gave me a good deal on my SVT Focus. I love that car, but it's just too impractical right now with a family of 4. Plus, my SVTF really sucks in the winter. I wanted a Disco for awhile and decided that it's finally time to purchase one.

I bought the Disco tonight. I hated trading in my car, but I've wanted a Land Rover for awhile. When I got to the dealership I took it out for one last test drive and noticed the SES light wasn't on like it was on Saturday. At first I thought COOL!! Then after driving it for awhile it came back on. The owners manual stated that it could possibly be the fuel filler cap. No big deal, I'll get it checked out soon. Other than that, all I need is a valve cover gasket and a CD magazine. The Disco runs real strong and everthing else seems to be working fine. Can't wait to get more acquainted with my Disco. I'll post pics as soon as I can. It was dark outside by the time I got home.

Go back to the dealer and ask him to recheck it, it is his responsibility in most states to fix it prior to the sale.

May I ask what you paid for it, and how many miles were on it. It is not listed anymore. I am just curious! Thanks!

I paid $8420 for it and it has 103k miles. It runs strong and is really solid. Hopefully she has another 100k miles in her.

Nice truck!!! I know you'll like it...i love the one we just bought. Have the SES light checked out, tell the dealer you want a print of the codes it comes up with....that way you'll know if they just shut the light off again or actualy fixed the problem....enjoy!!!! later, Dean
