Hi all.
The wife and I picked up a late '03 Disco S yesterday. I am puzzled by the climate contols and unfortunately don't have a user manual. Does anybody have any info they can send me on how to work the climate control? Primarily I was wondering, is the A/C compressor always running or only when it has to cool the air? It was running yesterday when I really wouldn't have expected it to but cut off when I switched on Econ. (the revs audibly dropped) Is there a way of just turning it off, even if I whack the temp controls to minimum? How do I turn it off Auto mode? Thank you very much in advance. Jason |

if yours is the same, you have an on/off button on the left, then the auto button, then I believe the mode button which changes where the air is sent. The thing that looks like a fan changes the fan speed and the recirculate looks like it should. The econ button will turn the a/c off if its on (if its 40 degrees outside it wont be on). Personally, I usually just hit auto till the truck is at about 70 degrees, then turn it off completely. In summer, Id just set it to 72 and leave it.

You are probably listening to the Secondary air injection pump working or the fan clutch engaging.

It comes off full Auto mode any time you take over the fan speed or redirect the flow- the Auto button just returns everything to 'set and forget'

the "bay" for used/new ones, as they show up from time to time. if not, try www.roversland.com and give them a call, they usually have used ones. if not, then check www.books4cars.com they stock new ones. Hope this helps, Carlos |

Thank you all for your detailed replies. When I spoke to Land Rover they quoted $120 for the owner's manual (which comes with something else) but I have seen it for $65 on books4cars.com so I'll probably go for that one as I would like a new one - thanks for the tip.
From the responses, am I correct in thinking that if I switch the controls to Econ on and Auto off, I won't have A/C? It will only come on when I turn Econ off? My old Toyota MR2 used to cycle the A/C compressor when Econ turned on so it still functioned - but you could turn that off if you wanted. I suppose in the summer if we want the windows down or the sunroof open, we just turn the whole thing off as mnmike suggested. You can probably tell I've never owned a car with auto climate control Whenever I've had it in rental cars I've never driven them long enough to worry about the effects of running the A/C compressor full time. Thanks again. Jason. |
