Default no spark or fuel

Just replaced the head gaskets, water pump, wires and plugs on my 2001 discovery II. Had the heads redone and put all back together. Truck was running when i starting, Get done, turn the key and it just cranks. It seems to have no spark or fuel. Pulled a couple of plugs to check for spark and no spark and they were dry so i do not think i am getting fuel. Any ideas of where to start, could i have hit a sensor or something.

Sounds like you have one of two problems, either the inerita switch needs to be reset or you damaged the crank sensor causing the ECU to not fire the injectors.

checked the inertia switch already that is fine. The engine was real dirty so i did try to clean it up the best i could. Would the crank sensor cause both the no spark and the no fuel. Is there a way to test the sensor, where can i get one

I am pretty sure it cuts of the fuel, not the spark. As for testing it, hopefully one of the others can answer that, pretty sure there is, just don't know how.

Mike is spot on. The computer commands the spark and fuel based on the timing it sees form the crank/cam sensor. Without a signal, it doesnt know the car is trying to start.

Without the crank signal the engine ecu has no way of knowing the engine is rotating - the cam sensor is just to get the sequential injection,ie No1 piston on its firing stroke,or its exhaust stroke.Lose the cam signal it will still run - badly, lose the crank signal and the ECU will do nothing.

Ok thank you for the info. It sounds like i will be starting with the crank sensor. If i understand correctly, it controls both the spark and the fuel, so hopefully that is the problem, Maybe i accidently unplugged it while doing all the work on the heads.

If you removed it while working on the heads, you may have damaged it while reinstalling it.

Well got the truck running today, runs and sounds great. I hate to admit it but it was the crank sensor, It has to be plugged in to work. It was a pain to get it plugged in but was relieved the truck was finally runninng. Thank all of you guys for all your help, this is a great forum.

Good work guys, I knew there was a reason I loved this forum.

just a question for my own knowledge. I replaced my clutch on a porsche 944 I had years back, and I remember the crank sensor being picky on the gap between the sensor and the crank, are Discos as sensitive to the spacing as well.
or is this just a porsche thing. LOL
