Just replaced the head gaskets, water pump, wires and plugs on my 2001 discovery II. Had the heads redone and put all back together. Truck was running when i starting, Get done, turn the key and it just cranks. It seems to have no spark or fuel. Pulled a couple of plugs to check for spark and no spark and they were dry so i do not think i am getting fuel. Any ideas of where to start, could i have hit a sensor or something.

checked the inertia switch already that is fine. The engine was real dirty so i did try to clean it up the best i could. Would the crank sensor cause both the no spark and the no fuel. Is there a way to test the sensor, where can i get one

Mike is spot on. The computer commands the spark and fuel based on the timing it sees form the crank/cam sensor. Without a signal, it doesnt know the car is trying to start.

Without the crank signal the engine ecu has no way of knowing the engine is rotating - the cam sensor is just to get the sequential injection,ie No1 piston on its firing stroke,or its exhaust stroke.Lose the cam signal it will still run - badly, lose the crank signal and the ECU will do nothing.

Ok thank you for the info. It sounds like i will be starting with the crank sensor. If i understand correctly, it controls both the spark and the fuel, so hopefully that is the problem, Maybe i accidently unplugged it while doing all the work on the heads.

Well got the truck running today, runs and sounds great. I hate to admit it but it was the crank sensor, It has to be plugged in to work. It was a pain to get it plugged in but was relieved the truck was finally runninng. Thank all of you guys for all your help, this is a great forum.

Good work guys, I knew there was a reason I loved this forum.
just a question for my own knowledge. I replaced my clutch on a porsche 944 I had years back, and I remember the crank sensor being picky on the gap between the sensor and the crank, are Discos as sensitive to the spacing as well. or is this just a porsche thing. LOL Rudy |
