Default Not engaging gears!

Sometimes our 2000 SII Disco doesn't go into gear despite the lever being in either Drive or Reverse, and instead rolls down any incline its parked on and revs like its in neutral! It doesn't do this all the time, and when tranny dies engage gear, it works perfectly.

Sounds like it is time to have the tranny checked for codes and or a service. How many miles on the truck, how long since it has been serviced???

Truck has 94k, just purchased, it is very cold here so no time to check tranny fluid, but I will this weekend. Trans is flawless once it get into gear; doesn't have the problem most of the time.

I would make a point of servicing the tranny, don't worry about the level of the fluid. Consider adding some Lucas tranny additive, will make a nice difference.
