Default ODBII Codes, Which Sensor?

I have had a very little experience with readers before, and just bought one for myself. After reading many posts, I ordered the ScanGaugeII. I am a little unclear about something. If a sensor is having issues, will the scanner tell me which one, or does the code itself indicate with sensor is at vault?

For example:
P0171
Oxygen Sensor System Too Lean Fault Bank A

Does 'Bank A' indicate which sensor it is; its location?

Bank A = driver's side, bank B = passenger side.

P0171 is the front O2 sensor on the driver's side. It is in front of the cat.

Had the same problem a few months ago and I couldn't find anything in the manual that definitively told me that bank 1 was the left side. I mean, I assumed it was but considering it's a British truck and they drive on the opposite side of the road I just couldn't be absolutely sure. In the end I decided that since O2 sensors have a specific lifetime it would probably be smart to change both forward sensors at the same time. The rear sensors I left be as they seem to have a longer life expectancy, being after the cat.

Thanks all. The code above was just an example regarding sensors in general. I was actually pulling misfire codes which turned out to be a wet coil or wires. You can also use: OBD II Codes* MuddyOval.com
