Oil Light - Land Rovers Only

This just happened today. I was driving home from Nashville and when I got to a stop light my oil light came on. I took off from the light and it went away. Then the next stop light it did the same thing. At idle the oil light comes on and when I give it gas is goes away. When I got to the house I checked the oil level and everything checks out fine. Any ideas? It appears that it only shows up at idle around 800 RPMs.

For what it is worth, if an oil light comes on as yours did, don't wait till the end of your trip cause it could be indicating a serious problem.
This morning first thing you need to get you oil pressure tested, your oil pump could be failing or plugged.
What year and mileage is your truck?

I agree with Mike about never driving with your oil light on. It is probably one of the most serious warning lights you have on your dash. The D2 is known for having a clogged oil pick-up in the sump and failing oil pumps. It is definitely something that should be looked at before putting too many more miles on the truck.

Right now it has 40K miles on it.

What year is it? I believe the 03's had oil pump problems, from what I heard there were a number of engines that failed. May want to have your truck checked sooner then later, especially if it is an 03.

Mike, it is an 2003. I found a place local that is highly recommended and I am going to take it to them on Monday afternoon. So for now it will be resting in the driveway until I can get it there.

Are you still in warranty? If so get it straight to the dealer, if not make sure the shop you are going to has lots of Rover experience and knows what to lock for regarding the oil pump/pressure failures.

Well I dropped the DII off at the shop today and the initial diagnosis is not too good. They did notice a slight tick coming from the motor at idle, which they thought may be a bearing going bad in the motor. I hope not but tomorrow they are going to put a manual oil pressure gauge on it and see what it looks like at idle and they will know more from there. If it is the bearing, they said that most likely the Dumb-A$$ who owned it before me most likely did not change the oil on a regualr basis. More to come later.

Don't just jump into whatever they come back with as a supposed problem. Let us know what they say, what and how they tested it and a break down of the estimate.

Oh I will. Even if I am pretty confident with them most likely I will get a second opinion just to be sure. Hopefully they can tell me something by this afternoon.
