Anyone care to post those VIN ranges for oil pump issues? - I also have an '03 DII HSE7 w/Extended warranty. I want to check mine Fo-SHO!
Todd
Good Luck at the dealer, but at least it was not in need of a new engine afterall!!!

Has anyone ever taken apart a filter? I would be interested to see how the check valve works. Did not know it had one. Wonder if it works like the heart valve to keep blood from flowing backwards?

As a matter of fact, I know you will argue with ME, but if you investigate you will find that the engine still uses the same US designed tappets for decades. They were made for 20W50.

This topic has been done to death. Well past arguing about what to use. If people want to put water in their engines (5W/30) they can do it based on all the arguments for and against over many threads in this forum.

Default LR Dealer

LR Greensboro put 5w/30 in my 4.0 after they replaced the valve cover gasket. I asked and that’s what they recommended. As some already know, they also decided to torque down my drain plug to AT LEAST 65LBS. It was an SOB to get it off.. I forgot who was having the problems... Any resolve? Oil Pump? Engine?

Default Update!!!

So the dealer says it needs an oil pump... I need to send the warranty company a stupid oil change receipt and they will approve the repair and a rental...

I'll post an update when I get more info.!!!!

Everyone have a wonderful and safe Labor Day!...

actually that bulletin only happened suddenly. if the pump was misaligned then when you were driving it happened.

but the failures occured from 12k to just past 50k but I suspect the last I saw at 50k may not have been serviced to begin with.

It interests me that the bulletin states the fix to me a new engine! Yet, the dealer in this instance is going to only replace the pump. Rovin' 4 Life...you are the tech...wtfo?
Glad to hear your Rover is right with the world though, mine too is an 03 HSE7 whose VIN falls squarely in the service bracket. I just had my 60K servicing done at the dealer, and if it needed anything, Im sure Rover would have done it. As it was, they replaced some check valve that made my hill decent and ABS lights come on...
Happy Labour Day people!

oil pump failure means no oil and destroyed engine.

a low pressure oil pump means its on its way out.

put a new pump and away you go.

oh on the td5 from 99 on the oil pump housing bolt will walk out without any noise and destroy the engine. all you can is put a new one in and torque everything.
