hi
i have a 2000 ES Disco 2 qand i clean it every week
but i have noticed that all the external trim has lost it colour abit
its now a really horrible looking grey
i have tired using the bottle liquids, spray on stuff and nothing seems to work it just washes off the next time we have any rain!!!!!
does any one know how to make the external trim stay black?
plz help
I've heard, but never tried, of using the black shoe polish with the foam applicator.. because it'll dye it instead of just put a oil over it. I'm going to try it on my fender flares one day..

hi thanks let me know how it goes
i have found a die that it about £11 but it lasts a year and cover 3 cars
i will buy some and let you know who it goes
The Mothers Back to Black or whatever its called works fine for all the black trim on mine...I removed the fender flares and thats probably the best thing I could have done for my truck...at least until i get some new ones...you can actually use a semi-flat spray paint on the bumpers and such, I've done this with other vehicles...just use a piece of cardboard to shield your paint or whatever...and what little bit of overspray does get on there can be claybar'd off or if you spot it immediately, alcohol or body solvent will remove it with no harmful effects.
There are a few companies out there that make refinishing kits for black plastic...they're usually just a black dye or something like that...as long as the texture is still smooth (fender flares usually rough up pretty bad) you can get away with any of that back to black rejuvinator or whatever you find at the local parts store.
Another thing, if spraypaint is a bit too messy for your taste, you can get the oil based paint in a quart or whatever and apply it with a rag or sponge. A little goes a long way. But I would try the mothers stuff before I resorted to painting...or you can always opt for the aftermarket bumper.
Oh yeah, the jeepers seem like to like krylon fusion spray paint.. its designed for plastic. I'm just going to sand mine down and use black shoe polish to dye them...

hi guys thank for the help i have a body repair man coming round to day 2 fix a dent in the back wing and ill ask him and see if he can reccomend anything,
i will thry the forever black thing and the shoe ploish, but i dont like the sound of painting them ,as i have seen loads in the U.K where i live that have been painted and after a while it bubbles
the bit on my car that are really bad are the ,
pillars at the side of the windscreen,
and the bit of plastic running in the middle of the door
all around the windows
side steps
wheel arches
roof bars
and pretty much every thing else and i aint gonna paint all that lol
as far as the parts that you suggested that were the worst on yours, I went around my truck and did the rear bumper, the rubber around the drip rail, windshield moulding, wiper arms, just about everything i could get away with...used that mother's stuff...worked fine, just takes a couple of applications to get all the spots you missed, check it in the sun so you'll see them...door handles are bad about holding wax or anything else that gets on the truck...those took forever to get back to black.
i used spray paint. that krylon for plastic stuff. works good and looks great. i used it on the end caps and the plastic factory sliders. just took them off, cleaned them, sprayed them black and put them back on. worked for me

If you use paint , it should be designed for plastic ....... i.e. flexing agent added , if not once the plastic flexes or bends the paint will flake off .

Yuck, that sounds grimy. Almost as gross as the peanut butter trick for removing wax residue.
Back to Black is nice short term but it won't last but a wash or two. I like the shoe polish idea, maybe try it in an area & see. If it works, once it's dry apply a good sealer type thing like this to protect & keep it looking nice longer.

hi
i had a man come round to day to fix some scratches.
he said that we should not really be using silicon based liquids as they damage the lackar on the paint work!
he said to try shoe polish
not to use old engine oil
and also try using a heat gun to bring the blackness to the top of the plastic!.
i will try the shoe polish thing at the weekend and i will let u guys know if it it works.!
