Default Old Man EMU shocks and springs.....

Hey you all! I've been thinking about changing my shocks and springs to the OME HD shocks and springs....but I've also been thinking...

I am going to keep my SLS and ACE systems, which will mean I need spacers because I'd like a two-three inch lift, but... if it is lifted, won't that affect the use/performance of the SLS and ACE??

If anyone has any input on this, let me know!

Thank you!!!

RoverTym sells SLS spacers (http://www.rovertym.com/slsspacers.htm) ... and I heard that lifting the truck does not affect ACE.

You can extend your ace linkages. Talk to Steve at RTE and he may be able to point you in the right direction.

Default i had your same setup

I had your same setup.
I had ACE, SLS, rear 2" RTE spacers with the linkage extenders, OME 2" lifted springs up front, and OME shocks all around. Awesome setup if you want to keep SLS in the rear. Ace was not affected that I could tell.
I wouldn't get HD springs up front unless you are planning on adding a heavy winch bumper. Mediums are more than sufficient for a normal truck which will only see light (non expedition type with tons of cargo and a winch) off-roading. I am sure others will chime in on this subject.

Keep in mind... I have the RTE spacers if you want them!!!
I did a rear spring conversion and have all the lifted SLS parts. I also have the airbags which were only installed a little while ago.

As long as you stay at 3"s or less, you will not need to make any modifications to your ACE.

Hey wimp!

I'm so sorry I haven't gotten back to you about the spacers!

Please don't hold them for me....

I would really like to get the lift, but I know I can't do it by myself, and I need to find someone out here that could do it for me for a good price.... What would a good price be????

I've talked with Disco Mike about what kinda of shocks and Springs I need, and he's SURE I need the HD ones.... and you say no...

How come??

I mean.. I have NO intent on a winch or a grill guard...yet... if I do put anything, it will be a grill guard...

but what's the difference between the HD and...medium????.. i think that's what it is...

Thank you!!!

To be more specific. I suggested that without a bumper or winch the 779 coils in the front would work well. If a winch and bumper were on the front of the truck then I wuld suggest the 751 coils from a D1 in the front.

It doesn't sound like you've taken your truck off-road..just wondering why you want to lift it?????

I'm not against lifts or crazy mods when they enable the owner to go/do things that are only possible with those mods, but to throw stuff on a Rover just for the 'look' is a waste of money IMO.

I have an Tjm and Superwinch X9. Running SLS and didn't want a lift. I didn't see the need, as my D2 does everything I need it to w/o a lift. I'd had the TJM on for years w/o the winch on stock springs - the factory springs had sagged a little over time. I used the OME med. springs in the front and am back up to stock height. I also kept the original shocks. Had I installed a RTE bumper to replace the TJM (my original plan) I would recommend the HD fronts as the RTE is much heavier than a TJM.

I talked to every vendor I could find, and ended up buying from EE. John and Ho are straight shooters and won't try and sell you everything under the sun.

Yeah.. I really haven't taken it off-road...but I would like to!

and I really want to prepare it for a good time! :]

I love the look of a lift, and it just makes me feel better about going off-road...

When you bought them from EE, did you install everything on your own or did you take it somewhere??

Thanks for your thoughts!!

If you are not raising the height of your vehicle, be sure that the rear shocks only extend to the same length as the factory originals.

If you use shocks that extend longer, the rear SLS airbags will eventually tear themselves off their tops when the shocks are fully extended. Unless you fit spacers.

This is not a theory - it's happened fairly recently to a close friend of mine.

I was just saying that the OME HD springs may be a bot too hard for an unweighted rover.
If you plan on adding big steel front and rear bumpers, winch, and adding all sorts of gear and passengers for a long trek, then HD is great.

BTW

I agree that the lifted rover looks much better!
Also, the extra 2 or 3 inches that you get out of a lift makes a nice difference when crawling over obstacles. Better in water and mud as well. you are ultimately pushing less water and mud with the body of your truck.
all subtle differences that add up when you need it!
....and here comes the forum rebuttal.....
