Default Old or New.. You decide...

Facts:
Took 03' Disco to dealer for oil change.
Was told work was to be done friday evening.
Then told work was done before I arrived at 10am on Saturday
Went form dealer to car wash .3 miles
Went from car wash to home 12 miles
Does it look as this oil filter was changed 2-3 hrs ago with less than 13 miles???

hard to tell from the picture
looks like the filter mount was still dripping when they screwed it on.

Why don't you change the oil yourself. It takes longer to complain about it than it does to change the oil! It is not very expensive either. Even if the dealer was going to do it for free, I would still do it myself. Peace of mind!

I live in Townhouse and we cant work in the parking lot.
Id rather pay someone to do it.
If the dealer would do it for free and you would still want to do it yourself, you must be really bored.

My local LR dealer washes the car for me as part of the oil change

I normally change it myself but I try to take it to a LR Dealer once a year they usually are nice enough to tell me what's about to fall off under there that I missed.

I take my vehicle to an oil change specialist and watch them change the oil and filter

It really is difficult to tell from the picture... Could be it's leaking a bit or they didn't wipe it off after installation.

I'm with you Armyrover... I change my oil and filter and take it to the service center once a year.

oh yea I forgot to say it's a new filter just a sloppy oil change tech. It's way to clean and white to be 3-5k old.

Some people aren't happy unless they're bitching about something.

I would say new, but I would also wipe it clean and check it later to see if it is a leakin'
I don't trust the so-called oil change specialists... unless it is at a dealership, or a real mechanic, you will most likely get some kid doing it, who knows less than you
over the summer, I serviced my parents cars ( good way to ensure a nice warm place to work on my truck in the winter) over the summer... each time I had to make a trip to the auto parts to get new oil plugs, for the f-150, the sts, and the monte...all three had been changed at wal-mart express lube,, and all three were overtightened and stripped,
...and a girl I went to school with worked at a valvoline, and all she knew about mechanics was to take the oil cap off, turn a dial on a handle, insert the nozzle into the hole and squeeze until it kicked off... she said she wasn't there long enough to move up to removing the filter

It looks new to me.

I was always taught to write the mileage or date of service on the filter with an indelible ink marker pen so you could identify the last change straight a way. This doesn’t seem to be done any more, if I was you I would start marking the various items that have been changed rite after the service, even its to give your self piece of mind.

Regards

hi there,

it looks new to me but it was either not well tighten or there is something wrong with either the filter gasket or the filter nozzle wher it attaches to your engine block (the only two places from where the oil can come down on it).

Looks new to me as well. I always take a Sharpie and date the filter as soon as I get home. Its not that I don't trust the dealer, it's just that I don't trust the dealer. Just my .02.
