Default Ongoing O2 sensor quest

Ok,
Thanks to all for the advice on the emission code, a new gas cap did fix it. One more code to go. My bank 2 number one O2 sensor code is showing. I just replaced it and the the code still reads after I reset it and drive a while. Is there a fuse that operates this thing or could it be another problem? What are the chances of getting a bad sensor? The codes says something like: "Bank 2, number 1 sensor, no activity". Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Mike,
Thanks for the response. It is P0154. Does that help?

How many miles on your truck? Have you checked to make sure your connection is tight?

Mike,
It has 136k on it. I did check the connection, several times. Its a '99, with four wire O2 sensors. What could it be?

At your mileage, you need new 02's. your's are tired, your performance is off and the mileage is down.
Go to Atlantic British, they have the best prices areouns at about $65 plus times 4, change them out and your truck will run better.

Mike
The O2 sensor is new. Thats what is so frustrating I just put in two new ones and one of them is still producing a fault code. Any ideas?

You might want to recheck the connection and wire harness. What brand of 02 did you install?

Check fuse #2... if it's blowing than you have a ground issue. Most likely your O2 sensor wire hitting something hot under there. Find the damaged wire and wrap it with electrical tape, then zip tie it out of the way from whatever is damaging it. Replace fuse too (obviously). Good luck.

OK,
Another twist. After driving about 60 miles the service engine soon light has gone off. Just for kicks I hooked up the OBD reader and the codes P1590 and P0154 are still showing. Should I reset the computer and hope the light does not come back on ( I am enjoying not seeing it) or just leave it alone and if everything stays the same hope the codes will too???????????? I still have to get it inspected, SOON.
Thanks in advance.

They won't go away if you clear them, they will plague you till the issue is fixed.

Make sure the connection is snapped in all the way... I would disconnect and reconnect just to make sure.

Yeah I thought about the light burning out!! But, really, what made it go out. Could it be I drove it far enough for the computer to reset the light but I have to erase the codes? Why would the light be out and the codes still showing???? I hooked up the OBD and it still showed P0154 but I did not erase it. Thought I would see if the light came back on. I have checked the connection several times as you can imagine. I cannot trace the wire very far back though, it disappears into the unknown once it goes behind the intake manifold. Where does it go from there? Maybe a short, I don't know. Thanks.

When you crank the car, the CEL light should illuminate for a few seconds as a test. If you crank it, and it doesn't come on, your bulbs out.
