Driving down the road, and notice the temp guage begin to creep up a little bit and within a minute it is close to the red bar on the guage. I pull over and turn it off, wait a few mintues and the cooliant level is low so I put some in and it all dumps back out underneath the middle part of the engine it appears. Any ideas? water pump? Thanks.
Find out where the coolant is coming out of... if it's 'pouring out' like that, likely a hose is broken... don't drive it if its overheating. It could be a number of things, if while looking at the truck, it's on the left side, it could be the thermostat, hoses going to it, or the coolant expansion tank, if its on the right side, it could be throttle body preheater.. if its more towards the front, it could be the radiator.

If for any reason you don't feel you can locate and fix the leak, DO NOT drive it, have it towed to your mechanic to be fixed so you don't have to drive it again and possibly damage your engine.

To find the leak you need a "pressure test" you or a local independent can do this. In the end,you have a gasket issue. Prolly head gasket either way - it will be important to get it fixed asap and you might as well get the whole thing done ( all gaskets) while your in there.
Do not use a stop leak in the meantime. I wish you the best.
With that much coolant leaking out, I'd hope its not a head gasket, maybe a burst hose.
Let's hope it 's a hose for sure, what a relief it will be! Better than thinking hose and it's HG. $$ vs $$$$$ The pressure test will help determine the issue.

It can vary based on shop $1500 - $2500. Let's hope for the hose issue first. If it is a gasket it may not be the head gasket, so it could run alot less. If it 's top front you may only have a gasket issue.
Have someone check the pressure of the system for sure. Relatively cheap process/service.

Guy tells me it's a front engine seal and a timing cover gasket or a gasket between the timing cover. recommends replacing the water pump while he is in there, $650 for the gaskets and seal and additional $300 for the water pump. Should I replace the pump? He said it's likely it will go out soon, has 89k miles.
I replaced my timing cover gasket about 5K miles back at 110K, pump was fine with little sign of wear and no play in the shaft so I left it. the pump alone is a relatively easy fix if you need to leave it (money or time). the timing cover gasket is a PITA, have to take the sump off etc etc takes a good few hours to do - I spread mine over the weekend and did the front drive shaft at the same time whilst I had it elevated.

Do your self a favor and get your coolant system pressure tested to verify exactly what is leaking, don't be too trusting of a mechanic who wants the combination to your wallet.

this is exact same thing that happened to me 2.5 years ago. Had a slow leak to the point where, one day, I started to see the temp guage rise above half. Shut it down immediately. Opened coolant tank and I saw the level go up and then shoot right back down. Filled a bit and coolant went everywhere underneath the truck. Waited some time.
DO NOT TRY THIS.....
Filled tank and coolant did not leak out this time. Drove 2km, tank was empty, refilled it. Did this 3 or 4 times (around 8 litres) and system was back to full (with slow leak of course). Next week had it pressure tested...result was head and intake gaskets shot. $1800 bill.
Don't be stupid and do what I did with the fill a bit and drive a bit. I could have toasted my engine.
