Default Problem with MY99 Disco

Hi All,
Run down first, 1999 discovery, Auto, 130,000kms.
Serviced last week.
New Rotors and Pads week before.
Past couple of days whilst driving it i've had an issue with my Disco.
Seems it's holding the gear too long, it releases or changes gear when i release my foot off the accelerator, just enough for the revs to drop a little.
Also when i'm doing 80kms on the freeway, it seems to be pulling back almost as if it's choking. Starts to pull back and the speed drops with the pedal still on the same level. It's bad driving onto bridges as when the pedal goes down for more power, it starts pulling back almost like a PULLBACK-FORWARD motion, and the speed drops from 90 to 80. I dont want to push it as i dont know what the issue might be.
Could it be a trannsmition issue? or fuel issue, or an engine issue. Asking now because i cant get it to a mechanic untill next week.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks All

if you dont have a code I would suspect a bit of low fluid in the transmission.

put the vehicle in drive and start it up and take the eight mm hex bolt off the trans pan. it fluid comes out its ok. if it doesnt come out then its low and needs to be topped off with dex three fluid from a fluid pump.

During my last service I had the tranmission serviced also. So I dont think it'd be low. I'll check it anyway.
Thanks.

when you had it serviced chances are they filled it when it was cold but didnt check it after it warmed up. you can get an extra quart or two after heating it up.

take it back to where you had it serviced and ask they check the level. Have them put it in the air in front of you in park after its warmed up to verify its filled.

the guy who did it could say he filled it and not bother to check it.

if you dont see anything coming out then he didnt bother to check.

it has to be done. over time it will cause a transmission light to flash.

dont bother going underneath yourself. its a messy pain the ass when not on a lift.

So if i warm up the engine, for say 10-15 mins or go for a drive, if i check the dipstick it should show that it's low in oil or because it's warm it'll show full?
or are you guys saying warm it up, drive to the mechanic, lift it and see if oil comes out from where the bolt is?
Sorry guys i'm not much of a mechanic.

Thanks

no dipstick on a disco two,

its on the transmission so you have to take it back to them and have it checked while it is running in park.

Hey Rovin4Life,

Took it to Landrover today, turns out the oil was fine, had plenty. Thats the good news.
The bad news is that it was the AIRFLOW meter. Changed it over with a new one, she goes really well now.
Ofcourse they charged me $644.05
$102 for labour
$483.53 for a round piece of plastic.
Oh well, I got ripped but she goes well now.
Thanks for your help anyways.

You got raped, here in the states, a new MAF is about $130 US plus freight on line.
I thought the dealers, down your way, were a little less thieves then here in the states.
Well at least you have the problem fixed.

Yeah I'm actually doing some research on some LandRover Spare Parts dealers in Australia, asked to get a price on one. If the price difference is $100 and over, not only am i going to call them up. I'll also tell them that I'm going to post their receipt on the net. See how much they like it when customers go elswhere. Don't make any sense why a landrover specialist would overcharge on spare parts, make a profit yes, but not 200% on parts and sting you on $110 labour for something that takes 10 mins to replace.
They also said if my tranny was gone i'd be looking at $3600 for a reco one. Yeah right!!

dealers arent raping people trust me.

Its the cost of getting parts. regular mail takes two months.

express mail takes a week and starts a twenty bucks and four dollars a pound.

trust me no rape.

and for god sakes its Melbourne, not Geelong or Adelaide.

Housing alone costs as much or more then San Diego housing.

also to the australian dollars are a bit less.

Would you buy a used car from this man?

With all servicing they will charge you recommended retail on the parts. There are huge mark-ups on these. For example, just purchased new lifters for my motor. Recommended retail was around $70 EACH. For genuine parts, I paid $8 each. I get my parts for cost plus and they work out usually less than a third of the recommended retail.

Ok guys, did some more research. I called a parts dealer in Perth western australia. He gave me a price $20 less and another parts dealer in melbourne gave me $15 dollars less on the price. BUT!!
The dealer in Perth was good enough to say that i can buy the sensor only for $220 instead of the whole thing. He gave me an option atleast, and a much cheaper one also.

They all want to make a buck, but some can atleast sleep better at night.
