Default Radiator Leak

I smelled some coolant odor on my truck and took it to the dealer. They told me that my radiator was leaking and I needed to replace the whole thing. I then too it to my local mechanic and he said that the leak was coming from the timing gasket cover. Does this mean that I do not need to replace the radiator

This means you need to go have your mechanic do a coolant pressure test to verify where the leak is coming from. Once you find out for sure, the get that replaced along with a new t/stat and radiator hoses if they haven't been replaced yet.
If it was is the radiator that is leaking, they can not be repaired and will need to be replaced. If you need one then check on E-Bay or on line, they can be found in the low $300 range.

My local mechanic did the test and that is why he said that it was the timing gasket. Wht would the dealer say that I need a new radiator instead of just replacing the gasket

Either the local mechanic is not familiar with Land Rovers, or the stealership likes $$$$$$. I have noticed in my dealings that the later is true. Who knows maybe both are leaking, one worse than the other. My 2 cents

When yopu were at the dealers, did they actually put your truck on the rack , do a coolant pressure test and show you the leak or did they just guess?

I say take it to a 3rd shop and see what they say. then maybe you'll have a 2 t0 1 on what problem might be. try a radiator specialty shop if there's one in your area.
