Do yourself a huge favor and forget it, you don't want to mess with getting around the Rover wiring.
Why are you wanting to do this anyway, not to let your engine warm up before you go driving on these cold winter days, I hope. Rover engines run so rich that all you are going to do is foul out your engine oil with lots of unburned gas.

I had one in a Grand Cherokee & had quirky electrical problems from it. Didn't work half the time either.

I've had mine for more than a year. I think it was about $200 installed. Haven't had any problems.

So let me get this straight, Gas costs over FOUR bucks or more a gallon , your rover barely gets fifteen miles to the gallon in winter, You probably have a cold climate package that allows the vehicle to warm up your ass and then clear the windshield of frost and you still think that spending more money to waste even more money is a great idea.

ok lets look at the stupidity of the situation.

A. In Calgary it gets well below zero, There is snow. So you have to go out to your vehicle whether at work or at home with a large coat on. Secondly even a set of gloves.
so, why spend money on a coat and gloves if you have car starter. Get rid of them so you can have your car starter.

B. GAS IS EXPENSIVE. WHY WASTE IT. It takes less then three minutes or less to get to open loop. And less at WOT. Huff it or dont waste the space on this website complaining about bad gas mileage and other problems that are rooted in a car starter.

Maybe I'm crazy but If you want remote start, get remote start. Anything can be done with enough time, patience and money. After spending over 40K on a car I feel the price of gas is quite inconsequential and the thing about engines is..... you can always buy a new one- same goes for cars. It's your ride, do what you want. I wish I didn't have to get in a cold car in the mornings, and I wouldn't care if I burned five extra gallons a day to remedy it. Everyone's cost/benefit is different. Not to be cavalier about the whole thing but everyone's different, not right or wrong just different.

If you do manage please let us know how it goes. Good luck with your remote start!!

I have one in my RRC for a couple of years now. I basically use it to warm the rig when my daughter is going to be riding with me it's a little cold for a 22 month old. I give it 5 min before I leave with her other wise I hardly use the thing.

I had mine installed cost me 50 bucks at best buy.

i would never get a remote start system again. I had one of my 2005 Mustang V6 Supercharged and had some serious electrical problems, plus it really started to wear on my starter. They are a good idea....but I don't know anyone who hasnt had either a starting or battery draining problem. they just kill what (little) reliability our cars already have.

Just so you know, a very large amount of car thefts occur when somebody has left their keys in the car and it is warming up in the driveway. Remote starters are wired through the brake switch, so not only can you leave your car locked while it's warming up, but if somebody brakes in, the car will die the second they hit the brake pedal, which means they won't get out of park. I'm not telling you what to do with your truck, but just pointing some things out.
Also, as far as gas consumption is concerned, I say to each his own. Everybody has different priorities, and if I wanted to save money on gas, I'd buy a civic.

A car will warm a lot faster when you're driving it than when it's sitting idling.

You could always try an engine block heater. They are about a hundred bucks, could even put a timer on it. Your rover will get warm quicker, hell it might even save a little gas.

I might be looking into a block heater as well. I'll probably go with the Wolverine engine oil heater, but the freeze plug one from napa would work too

NAPAź Online

It's $30, so you can't go wrong there.

Those do work pretty well the only downside is needing to be close enough to the house to plug in which I'm normally not. I let my wife park in the driveway being the gentleman I am lol

NAPA® Online

Hey only thirty bucks, but it doesn't have the official land rover emblem on the packaging. Thanks! I think I am going to head down to NAPA today and get me one. As you said, can't go wrong.
