Default This is ridiculous

Sooo.. I have read before about how low the gas mileage can be on the LR's... but, after only driving about 50 miles, I already had to put in 5 1/2 more gallons if I wanted the take to stay full!.... It is crazy! Thats like 9-10 miles to the gallon! I Have heard of the snorkels, and air filters and whatnot, but could someone just give me a list of everything that could keep my mpg up?? I've used both the LUCAS Oil and Fuel additives... soo any feedback would be great! Thank you!

If its stock, you should be getting more than that.. I get 9mpg but I'm on bigger tires w/ tons of heavy steel bolted on the truck. Try doing a tuneup.. plugs/wires/oil/new air filter, etc..

What year is your truck, how many miles on it? Are you using high octane gas?
Just for comparisons, I just filled up about a half hour ago, got an even 14 MPG driving around in Denver at nearly 6000 feet.
You need to look a little closer to see what is causing your terrible mileage.

For some reason, I averaged 17MPG at 6K feet or higher. Same truck at sea level is closer to 14MPG.

I'll bet it's that thing behind the steering wheel.

My truck is an 03' with only 35,000 miles on it.... I am using either Shell's V-Power or Mobil's Premium gas...

How come there is a significant difference between being at Sea Level and being alot higher??

And honestly, I am trying to drive as slow as possible. When reving up from a stop I am between 2000 and 2700.... I rarely go above 3000... How about the number of passengers.. would that make a big difference??

Thanks for the replies..

John-Robert

I'd say it's due to the split personality. Which one are you?

If you are talking about the gas, I am an avid fan of Shell.... no reason... just from info... but its 10 cents more expensive than Mobil/Exxon... soo, whenever I use my parents money, I go for Shell... haha but when its my money, I go for Exxon/Mobil...

Hey Ricky-Bobby,

A tune up is in order for you. and if that doesnt work, say a prayer to the eight pound, six ounce little baby jesus. Ask him for forgiveness, for using so much petroleum.

shake and bake.

Something tells me you drive in the left lane; alot. Do a little experiment first before you start throwing parts at it. Better yet, when was the last time it had a proper tune-up? Start there. You'll notice a difference. If it's not what you want/ expected, then start the experiment.

Fill up, drive sensibly, until your fuel gauge reads 1/2 thank. Document your start mileage at fill up and end mileage at 1/2 tank. Repeat this for two or three weeks. Divide you total mileage by total gallons. This will give a better avg. than just one attempt. And...drive sensibly.

I would think your '03 would get at least 15 mpg. On my last 80 mile hwy trip, I avg'd 15 in a '95 w/ parachute. Not really a parachute, SD roof rack with six lights up front. I drive in the right lane.

LOL

I don't know why my mileage was better at elevation - but I've owned this thing since '01, spent 4 years at 9500 feet elevation and my gas mileage was better. It's a Rover, I quit trying to figure it out.

The BRAND of gas has NO impact on your mileage. Nada, zippo, zilch. Your right foot, and the condition of your truck have the most to do with it. You should be between 12 and 17mpg, I would guess that's the norm for a stock D2.

I get about 18mpg, but that's just 'plain' driving to work (about 27 miles each way) with no off roading at all. For me, that's about 10 miles on the interstate where I can go 55-60 mph, and the rest on local roads at about 40-45 mph. Just about to turn over 80,000 miles on my '02 Disco SD. I also use and like Shell gas.
