Default RR vs Disco II

I am searching for the best 4x4 vehicle for an extensive road trip through Central America. The decision of which vehicle to use is still up in the air. While I know Land Rovers are all extremely capable, the choice comes down to a 2000 or older Range Rover or a Disco (I or II).

Which in your opinions would be most reliable(if i can use that word to describe a LR), and most capable on the roads and terrain of Central America.

In addition to the vehicle I would need to do some work to get it ready for the trip such as roof rack, lights, etc.

Any suggestions, comments are appreciated.

Thanks

I suggest you go with a Discovery 1999-2000 Discovery II, with no ACE (active cornering enhancement; basically a stability system) and no SLS (self leveling suspension; an air spring system for the rear suspension).
These 2 systems are amazing, but on a Disco from those years, they can break any time and it will become a huge problem in South America to fix them (especially out of towns).
The Range Rovers come with the air suspension system, and unless a coil spring conversion has already been made, it is too risky to drive it south.
Other than that, both cars have about the same off road capability with maybe the Disco being a little bit better off road, but by a margin that is hard to tell.
As for off road accessories, you can find them for both models.

Best of luck

Ditto!!!
You will have a more capable truck with a slightly modified D2 with a CDL t/case, lift and good tires for less money the a RR.
