Default Rust & manufacturer's warranty

Hi all.

Just searched the archives on rust and my 1st question of 'is it common' seems to have been answered in that there are a few posts on this topic.

My rust is mostly brackets and hinges. How much warranty is offered by the factory as standard and does it cover hinges or just frame (as I read in the archives) and body work?

When it comes to body work, would it cover a rusty stone chip that I have just found or just under-the-paint rusting that's not caused by an act of annoyance?

BTW, I have a 2003 Disco II.

Thanks,

Jason.

Surface rust won't be covered for repair. For the frame replacement on my wifes D2, it actually had a hole through it about four inches across!

Read your owners manual, it describes the rust warranty, I believe it covers certain types of rust based on what caused it for 7 years.

Gotta also remember,, the body is aluminum so it wont rust.. there are certain areas that are steel and when they do meet the aluminum they can cause rust (rear door jams, some floor panels)... also roof is steel so around the alpine windows rust.. The frame is completely steel.. Badger1 had his in rough shape and LR replaced it...

Does anybody else have rust around the window frame? My right rear window has some at the top and I just noticed the paint on my left rear window is beginning to bubble.

Has anybody else had this or replaced the window frame?

Pull it and fix it fast!

Had a problem on my D1 around the alpine windows(common on D1's) under the big gasket that holds the window in. Pulled them out and found holes through the metal on the passenger side in a couple spots! Got it all squared away though and it is good as new. That was a fun job.

We noticed 'corrosion' on the passenger-side of the rear taildoor, on the bottom. The door was all bubbly and the paint had chipped away. It looked lousy, but there was no holes. After two 1.5 hour drives to our local LR dealer in Bedford, NH they agreed to fix it! They gave us a loaner 2003 which we drove home, then went to MN on vacation for a week. When we got back to the dealer, the 'fix' was sanding the area, adding filler, and repainting the bottom. It was already starting to bubble. The Svc. Mgr. acknowledged the poor fix, gave us a different 2003 loaner, and when we came back they had a brand new taildoor all repainted and installed! I should mention we are the second owner, but the car is in very nice condition. We were within 2 days of the warranty expiring when we got the service order! So, after the hassle, they did it free and we had their loaners for two+ weeks. They wanted to see all the service records, as there is an annual 'corrosion inspection' service which must be performed.
