Exclamation Service Engine Soon light on urgent

Okay I just had my first baby at and I'm literally at the hospital. I took a drive in the Disco to go home and get some clothes that I forgot and the service engine soon light came on (orange) The Disco also had a very weird tugging feeling like the trans was slipping when it hit about 70+ MPH. I never noticed anything when in the 55 or below range. My question is does the Service Engine soon light mean there is something wrong of it it just a reminder that I'm due for service. I have around 50,100 miles on the truck. Because I am about to take my first child on his first car ride home (20 miles) this is concerning me and boy I would never hear the end of it if I broke down with a 3 day old baby inside. If anybody has any info I would greatly appreciate it.

By the way my truck is a 2003 Discovery SE model with the 4.6.

I know that if it's solid light, you can still drive, but if it's blinking than you're suppose to stop driving.

but since you a have a newborn with you, I'd suggest take another alternative vehicle.

Hmmm, my wife had the same type of problem in her 2000 D2. Shifted funny and CEL was on, but that turned out to be a mass air flow sensor was shot due to some recent offroading and some water getting in there. Just my experiance.

Autozone will read the codes for you for free (at least they did for me last time I went).

Congrats on the baby.

get it diagnosed.

congrats by the way.

You do have extended warrantee. It just it will make it a bit cheaper to deal with whilst having a kid.

Anyway keep the rover at home till you get it serviced.

Normally I wouldnt worry but its your new baby and its ok to go overboard.

Thanks for the advice guys. Got the cars switched out just fine and the ride home was all good. Unfort I wanted him to ride home in a rover because of course I will force him to drive one when he is 16 lol. Instead had to drive the Mazda 6 home but hey he made it safe. I'm taking it into the shop tomorrow morning so we'll see whats going on from there. As for my new son well its just awesome!!! 7 lbls 14 ounces of joy and hell all in one couldn't ask for more. Thanks again!

It is normal to have the tranny shift funny in both 3rd and 4th when the MAF fails, you usually get 3 codes when that happens, one indicating a 4th gear shifting problem.

On the 03, You need to have someone plug in a scanner and go drive the truck so they can see what the tranny is doing in real time.
Should do it sooner then later even though the CEL is not flashing.

Well I wish it was the MAF because that would be covered under warranty. What it turned out being was a bad plug and wire which of course is not covered under warranty. Had to pay $360 bucks to get it repaired. Only good thing is I got to drive a brand new 0.00 miles LR3 for the first time. They drive like a car sheesh nice but I like my Disco.

Holy S@#t!!!

I think I paid like $65 for an entire set of Magnecore 8mm. They seem much better than the stock ones.

With a little direction, you could have been able to change them yourself over a weekend (much quicker the second time around).

Totaly understandable though, with a new baby and all.

Hope all is going well with the little one and Mom.

Peace,

Dan

Yup I would have on normal circumstances done this myself but.. as i'm sure most of you guys know spending a couple of hours in the garage while the baby is crying and the wife is going crazy doesn't sit to well with the wifey. Sooo.. I figured I'd take the ass whopping on labor charges and just get it done for now. Just to refrest my memory, this would have required removing the plenum right? What a bad design decision sheesh..

Some have reported that they were able to do it whithout removing the plenum (upper air intake), but I have tried it and it seemed much easier to remove the upper air intake.

It's really not that bad if you know what to do.

Once it's off, the wires go pretty easy.

Peace,

Dan
