Default SLS Supsension Lift

I have a 99 Disco 2 with SLS. I want to lift it 2 inches and I am going to use the spacers for the rear but I have been told that if you lift a Disco it will wear out the driveshafts quicker. I guess that would be for any lift whether it was coil spring or sls. Can anyone help me out with this? Has anyone lifted thier Disco and had trouble with the driveshaft? I have already replaced the front driveshaft at a cost of $600 and I don't want to do that again. thanks for the help.

I know DiscoMike went this way a few years ago and still have the same setup until now.

if you're only going for a 2" lift, there shouldn't be any major problem. problem comes when you're going over 2" which will give more stress on the drivetrain components.

it's good if you want to use spacers for the rear, but it would be wise to have some spare airbags when you're hitting the trail, doesn't have to be new, used airbags will do just fine. I have spares if you want a set.

did you replace the front driveshaft with the greaseable one? if not, you just wasted a good $600.

I installed RTE's 2" spacer and the adjusters 3 years ago, I then set it up for 3"s of lift and it has been great. If all you want is a 2" lift you will find that it will actually ride smoother at 2"s then without the spacers cause you will need less air pressure.
If you want, PM me with your tele number and I'll call you.

I did that on mine. Never had any trouble with the driveline. However, use spacers on the air bags. I modded the adjustor levers to raise the air bags. While it worked OK for a long time, I finally blew the top off an air bag in the middle of the desert. Too much pressure. After that I went to springs.

By the way, I forgot to mention that lifts up to 3"s on a D2 will not hurt the drive lines or RotoFlex. Go over 3"s and yes you will be looking a possible drive line angle related problems.

I have another question about installing the spacers. I replaced the passenger side airbag last week and that was easy. my question is how do you get the airbags out when they are inflated and have pressure in them. When I replaced the one last weelk it was already down so it was easy. is there a way to bleed the air? by the way thanks for the help with the lift question. The info helped me out alot.

you just have to loosen the airline's screw on top of the airbag...wait till it stop blowing air then turn the airbags about 45 degress, right or left, I forgot and it should pop out immediately...

Or you can go to the pump and crack open both of the lines to the bags and let the deflate which I found to be easier.

I have SLS with 2" spaces for about 3 yrs and about 45000 miles.
The only problems I see is that with the spacer in place the upward travel of the supension with regards to the bottom of the air bag is also 2" more than standard. In other words with the axel up against the end stop the bag is also compressed by an additional 2" compared to the stock setup.
I had one bag leak after a really big bounce, I still wonder if this is related to the extra compression.
In either case I stuck a 2" spacer on the top side of the axle where the bump stops hit to prevent this happening, since then I've had no problems with the setup.

If you airbag ever blows off-road, you can simply cut a bit of wood and put in place of the airbag until you get home. Gives a bumpy ride, but will get you home.
