Default small leak cab thanks to genuine ladder

Title error: small leak INTO cab thanks to genuine ladder (my bad i was rushing)

ok, so i have a small leaking issue. its not serious, and totally manageable. If my car sits in the rain for a while, i start up and i go forward, all the water just sitting on my roof pours of the back. but (thanks to my newly dealer installed and purchased Genuine Parts Ladder) a teaspoon or so drips through the rear doors weather stripping onto my retractable cargo cover. the weather stripping is perfectly fine, i think the dealership didn't tighten down the screws enough (as too seeing that they aren't flush with the top of the rear door's lip). I am gonna try and see how tight the bolts are (After it stops raining, probably this weekend).

I was just wondering if any other discos have had this problem with a genuine ladder?

I have this exact same problem and, in fact, it is one of the things it is going in for tomorrow. The ladder's been on for a few month, plenty of time for the seal to re-form I should think, and still leaks. I'll let you know what they say.

Had this issue when I first got my discovery with the OEM ladder already on. I too tought it was the ''thickness'' of the ladder that was allowing water to go in. Went to the dealer, and the service manager who is also a member of the local club, showed me how to resolve this.

You first have to open the door all the way, and while a second person is holding it and not allowing it to move, you have to loosen the upper hinge. Then the second person lifts the wide open door a little to allow the hinge to move in further than it originally was. thighten the upper hinge, and this will create a thighter seal.

Worked for me.

i did what you said about unbolting the top hinge and shifting it back a tad towards the car. it seemed to make a much tighter seal. thanks for your help.

These sites are about sharing info, and letting others profit from our experiences. Happy I could help.

To see if the seal is tight enough, you can use a regular sheet of paper and put it half way in on top of the door and close it. You shouldn't be able to pull it out easily. You should have a lot of resistance, almost to the point of ripping the sheet. Then, jump in, close the door and have someone hose the heck out of it. Shouldn't leak anymore.

i may end up making it tighter later. but it has rained the past few days and i havent noticed any water inside the cab. althought some of the weather stripping was still a big wet, nothing came close to dripping in.
